I believe this only applies to buildings that carry Federal Flood Insurance, right? I don't, and I took my chances based on my own research for my home's elevation. I was also mostly dry during Sandy except for a neighbor who didn't have a check valve on his sewer line and he got a few feet in his basement that seeped a bit through our common wall. I got one too, and would be interested in getting an Elevation Certificate.
My house was totally dry during Sandy and other major flood events, so it could be that the elevation for my house is enough to get me out of the zone.

I think the cost is about $500 - $600 but it seems like it could be worth it.

has anyone looked into it?

I assume others have received the notice from FEMA that you need an EC. Any recommendations on surveyors? Just seems like a racket cooked up by lobbyists, so I"m looking to get this done as quickly and cheaply as possible. thanks, DC.
