So Rebecca is control by a pac? She claims she is running independent but some pac put up money so they must control her.

I didn't read the article - I was responding to what the poster quoted, which usually is the point of emphasis. Granted, it's poorly written so maybe I misunderstood.

As for what is obvious - I would think being able to recognize that a vacationing lawyer enjoys economic advantage and privilege not available to the average person would be pretty simple.

To another point the article makes - the money Solomon has raised or contributed: wtf cares? The issue with political contributions isn't that they are made or necessarily how big they are, it's when they come from sources that would likely have expectations for something in return. Is it an advantage for Solomon that he has college roommates and aunts and uncles, et al who have done well and are willing to contribute to his campaign? Sure it is. Or that he comes from a family that seemingly has wealth (I don't know this to be the case firsthand) and he can fund a decent amount of his campaign himself? Of course. It would be great if money could be removed from politics - today, that isn't the world we live in. And if money has to be involved, I'd rather it come from someone in financial services in Chicago or a lawyer in Miami than a business or organization in Jersey City whose commercial interests are materially affected by the votes of a city council member they helped get elected.

I'll be curious to see the next ELEC reports for Symes - she's played the money card very well so far. She cried poverty, but knew that late money was coming. How much more will be an interesting tidbit to find out.

Jsleeze, please read the linked article again. The working men and women refers to the labor union members, not Symes. I would have thought that was obvious.

Just stop this nonsense.

Kudos to the writer -- "Whatever your feelings are between these two candidates - one thing is clear to me. Rebecca has spent time making Jersey City residents voices heard, and involved them publicly as contributors. Why hasn’t Solomon assimilated to our community in the same way or why doesn’t he have contributors publicly giving him money?"

Don't be ridiculous. "Unemployed" was a choice for her, not as though the mine closed and she's just scraping by. I am not making any judgment on her service or desire to contribute to the better good of the community but be honest - certain people come from backgrounds where going without a job for a period of time is an option (think Fulop in the year leading up to his first mayoral election.)

Lumping her in with people labeled as "working men and women" and as part of a discussion of people working for "living wages" is insulting to folks who actually live under those conditions (and not by choice.)

So Rebecca is running against the Trump agenda. I did not realize JC politics had an effect in Washington.

Working men and women? Not sure what is meant by "working", but Symes is a corporate attorney earning far more than a living wage and access to a considerable network of funding. Please spare me the cry of poverty on her behalf.

WARD E RACE: FULL OF "DARK" INFLUENTIAL "SUPER" HYPOCRITES

http://hudsoncountychronicles.com/war ... r-hypocrites-p485-166.htm

"According to the most recent ELEC, James Solomon has raised $188,000 for this Council election. Almost $50000 of it comes from his own pocket. And his donors are all outsiders, with almost little to no publicly disclosed contributions from Jersey City residents. Again, kudos to Solomon for having a wealthy network that he can draw from - but let’s not pretend that everyone has that ability. This is almost bullying money when your opponents are all vastly underfunded and don’t have equal access to donors like this."

"You can’t be for social justice and earning a living wage and then think these working men and women are in the pockets of developers. It just doesn’t work that way. I don’t buy the argument that a labor union PAC that wants higher wages, safer work environments, and more unionized labor is in the pocket of developers that actually benefit from the opposite."

Just because this Stronger Foundations place paid for polling it doesn't make it the push poll mentioned in this thread. Why if they were trying to help Symes get elected would they push poll smears about her living in Hoboken?

That's the kind of smears JcVoter has been pushing.

JCVoter, the calls are coming from inside your house!

RFK was an associate of Roy Cohn who was employed by Senator Joe McCarthy.

My point ..Rebecca is her own woman and she be applauded for her accomplishments.

Interesting that Solomon seems to have really galvanized the Healy/Matsoukidis camp, many of course being outside of downtown. Although getting the "angry" crowd didn't go over well for Matso, I wonder if Solomon can leverage their support to victory here?

There are a lot of folks in the Symes camp who are - and one Solowsky is worth three Habibs, four on a good day. You don't need the mayor's endorsement when you are handed a lot of his infrastructure. Also - egress into high rise buildings to roam and knock on doors that is not available to other candidates does lend credence to the notion that Symes is the developer's candidate.

There are all sorts of ways to support a candidate without endorsing. The fact that there was a $300k contribution from Dixon to the Fulop super PAC probably makes the optics rather poor for an endorsement.

Rather, the Solowskys, Habibs and Bertolis (and whatever gets spent from independent expenditure accounts) can accomplish as much or more as an endorsement.

"Good Friends!" Hey, it worked for Senator Menendez!

I'm KIDDING! I'm KIDDING! To be clear, I am NOT implying that James is receiving contributions and other favors to get young models to the U.S. on student visas!

If there is no Stroock contribution on the ELEC then I will say that was my mistake.

In the meantime, I am trying to figure out the quid pro quo for Rebecca (an allegation of illegal conduct). Given that the Mayor has STILL not endorsed her (to the frustration of many in the Symes campaign, I suspect) he has an awful funny way of showing the "quo."

yes, this is a disbursement, not a contribution as the other poster alleged. and there was a contribution from the managing director of JEN Partners, an NYC private equity firm (that does invest in real estate). however, I do not believe that donor works for the law firm that received the payment. many of the large donations are from friends of his family including his late father. funny, that I have criticized for not being very good at fundraising and almost solely raising money from JC in mostly small donations, so James is getting beat up for doing what I should have been doing which is reaching out to family, friends, friends of family and parents and school contracts. I get it.

I looked through his elec reports on the NJ Election Enforcement website and cannot find any donations from attorneys that work at that law firm. Could you please point them out to me since I did not find any and you said plural.

Does that mean James is beholden to the real estate developers? Or that even worse, he is giving a "kickback" of business for campaign contributions, i.e. pay to play? Of course not. But that is the logic that is being used to demean his opponent.
