There is a White and Shauger on Oakland ave for heating, domestic hot water, and A/C plumbing related items. They are pretty good about ordering what they don't have in stock.

I found the big box stores to be frustrating as hell when buying a good amount of PVC fittings. Empty bins, missing components, etc.

If I have a large order, I place it with this outfit:

Good to know about W&S, I had no idea, they don't come up on a search for plumbing supplies. They don't mind retail walk-ins? Most of my plumbing mail order goes to Supplyhouse.com, used to be Pexsupply. Get your order in by 6 and you'll have it the next day, and very good prices.

Major DIY victory today: fixed the dryer in the 3 family basement after a minor lint fire. Learned a LOT about dryers, like CLEAN THE VENT DUCTS!!! It wasn't the thermal fuse, just a couple of melted wires that didn't look that bad at first sight.

Can get most things that you can't find at Home Depot in a day or two from Amazon or eBay. ( Appliance parts too. )

Maybe so for homeowners, but not for the pros. FFS I couldn't get a 1" steam valve at HD.

They can't compete with the Home Depot's where you can buy everything from a discounted water heater to some elbow fittings and of course a bag of dirt for your potted plants.

The only game in town is the place on City Line in Bayonne as you noted and thank God for them as they often stock the parts needed.

Holy crap, they've been dropping like flies. 2 in the Heights, Modern, and now RiverWest. WTF? With all the building and reno how can these places be going out of business? Yeah, I know the best internet suppliers, but sometimes going there was the best way to get what you need.

Except for the skanky little place on Central, it's now either General in Bayonne or Hudson in NB.
