Can James Solomon simultaneously endorse Matsikoudis and also hold Fulop to a higher standard than Matsikoudis? The real life FBI came to City Hall and arrested a bunch of people under Healy/Matsikoudis. The Deputy Mayor went to federal prison. If Matsikoudis gets a pass from Solomon for Bid Rig, how can he criticize Fulop? Is this real life?

I guess this is what $120K in political donations can buy you. Facebook is bad enough without having to read James Solomon's sanctimony on it.

Yes. Much discussion. No action. That department needs a strong leader with a vision (or at least awareness of what the world looks like in the 21st century.)

There are very few mobility problems in Jersey City that couldn't be solved in a year. Many require little or no money.

the 120k is on the low end. The final tally will be much higher.

I take it James' ad was created when he thought he'd be running against Candice. Like somehow all she's about is all these crazy signs everyone hits. It's easy to grandstand, especially when you can fundraise $120,000 for a council seat. You know what's hard? Working hard, especially doing things like constituent services. Of which James' ad strangely doesn't mention.

I guess he thinks Matsikoudis will be easier to beat down the road. Imagine raising $120k for a council race and not winning?

Candice has been effective at getting things done - but I'd rather see the city hire a forward-thinking traffic planner than have someone on council pushing for ad hoc fixes. Like so many other things, the streetscape is dealt with in isolation - oh, there was an accident here? Put up a stop sign or speed bump. (Don't get me wrong - I'd love to see a whole lot more stop signs... along with enforcement.)

Bike lanes (in traffic, alongside traffic, protected), speed bumps, stop signs, restricted turns, turn lanes, pedestrian crossings, bump outs, traffic circles, car-free zones, express bus lanes - all of these things should be done thoughtfully, as part of an overall plan. Does anyone get the sense that this is how the city operates?

I think it is important to have a council representative who advocates for it, and a city administration that is on board with it. In the past, there was a lot of pushback from the city's traffic planners, which seemed to be stuck in the mindset of building our roads to accommodate more cars. I am not saying it has completely changed, but there is a lot more discussion around complete streets now.

i meet with James  and i  thought we came to an understanding on an aspect of his campaign that was  personally bothering me. i was wrong.  He continued/ continues to exploit his illness

for personal gain.  In my humble is he is, by far, the least authentic candidate in Ward E.

I find it very important to have a sense of humor about oneself. I don't think you are wired that way. If you were you could of gone farther in politics. Plus the healy thing..hard to get over that.

Can we do better? Of course we can do better. And we should always try to.

The Solomon campaign has to navigate a specific path in this campaign. You have a group of voters who will probaby vote for the Mayor, but are disenchanted with him. These are Solomon's core.

Then there are the people who have outright oppose Steve. The campaign has to pull enough of these from Hudnut.

Finally are the voters who will probably vote for Steve but are not that directly involved in local politics. He is banking on being an independent voice but not too alienating.

It's a tricky job, but with over $100,000 in funding he has a decent shot at it.

Per Terrence McDonald, Solomon says he supports Matsikoudis for Mayor though. I wonder how many of his supporters know this.

I know James was talking about pedestrian safety well before this weekend's tragic incident, as were the other candidates. It's one of the bread and butter issues downtown (and really, citywide).

This is an area where the city has been making progress, and the advocacy of our current councilwoman has been instrumental in such progress. I have no problem with James or any other candidate promoting pedestrian safety. I am less enamored with the belittling of the efforts that the city has taken, often in the face of vocal criticism from people who prefer a more car-centric road plan.

Is this like we can talk about guns after Mass shootings and we can't talk about climate change after hurricanes? Because I don't believe that. Pearlclutching is a different form of political message. This from an anonymous troll, such deep concern.

It is clear some people find it acceptable to spin political capital from the death of a child, I do not.
He was barely dead a day before the first post clumsily appeared.
As individuals and as a community we should not stoop this low in the face of tragedy.

I do not know, when I have run for office, the website was constantly changing and being updated. The introductory video is still on his facebook page here - https://www.facebook.com/solomonforjc/videos/1971795059760155/ and on youtube where you found it.

of course and do you not think people should run for office and work to attempt to make their city better? why would you say I moved out of town? would you like to come over and see our place? maybe you could share with the jclist world why you were calling and texting James over the summer and he wanted to no part of it? No you are shameless and wrong. This is what James posted on his facebook page - "I was at Grove and Columbus when a young child was hit by a driver crossing the street. I'm praying for this child's family, friends, and neighbors. I'm grateful to the activists who have been fighting for safe streets in JC for years now. If you aren't part of the movement, today is the day to join Safe Streets JC." https://www.facebook.com/james.slater.solomon Quote:

This ad pre-dates this weekend's terrible event. My point is that traffic calming is not a punch-line for a political attack. It's an attempt to slow cars down in places where people could be hit by cars.

Solomon is constantly reminding us he had cancer   I'm glad anyone beats it but it doesn't make for a campaign platform. Now he is exploiting the tragic death of the kid this weekend...the man is shameless.

"We can do better than pedestrian safety signs that simply serve as target practice for aggressive drivers."

I think Candice Osborne's work to calm traffic in Downtown Jersey City was prescient. It wasn't flashy, like an "Evict Kushner" Event. It was government trying, in a practical way, to make the city more walkable. I'd rather have hit signs than hit people. I thought it was a cheap shot from James.

The councilperson is a part time job.

Constituent services first and foremost.

Candace had a greatly needed stop sign put at my corner.

What kind of job should a councilperson have? What makes a "good" Downtown councilperson? Can you name a few examples from the recent past?

No it's not a crime but it is indicative of who he is.

A white male from a wealthy suburb with no business experience,
telling people that he knows better. i don't think he does know better. No sense that he will will work well with other council members, I think he will be focused on promoting himself and not serving the needs of Ward E.

Don't need a gadfly at this time.
