Does Fulop crack 60%? Historically that?s a high bar, but Matsikoudis really doesn?t seem to have gained traction anywhere.

I just saw a Fulop ad during "The Walking Dead" about how he likes swearing in new police officers

Maybe he thinks he can't win in Ward C? Not sure what's different about the voter make-up over here.

In my lifetime I have rarely had the pleasure of voting for someone without holding my nose. It's just the way it is if you don't want to throw your vote away on a fringe candidate. Sad that a realistic re-election slogan can be "I could have been a lot worse like the previous guy!"

Could be the La Cosa HCDO mandarins told him he needed to do this for the party. Once you're a "made man" in the HCDO they take care of you, but expect loyalty.

Fulop's campaign people came by last week to confirm if I am going to vote for him or not. My response was, "maybe... if I do, it will be without enthusiasm".

If I pull the level for the mayoral column will because I dislike Fulop's opponent way more than my level of disappointment with Fulop's term as mayor.

It doesn't get said better. Have you caught Dave Wakeling and the new incarnation of The Beat on their recent tours? Saw them in 82 and they're just as good. A theater full of old farts like me dancing their asses off.

As Margaret Thatcher said, JSleeze, if there is no facts to attack you, then they attack you personally. You fit Margaret Thatcher definition of an attacker with no facts.

I am stating the facts, you can spin them anyway you want to, nicky. The turnout was enormous 4 years ago downtown. Yet I have seen downtown groups complaining about many things at city hall. That hope in change has diminished in many downtown voters. People came out to vote in May, so Fulop is hoping they will come out to vote for governor and perhaps throw him a vote. Those are the facts, it was never about saving money changing the election date, many might actually be angry with him after they see the crowded ballot this November.

Oh, here comes Yvonne to lower expectations and already lay the groundwork to dismiss Fulop's victory.

"He would have lost if the election date didn't get moved! I can continue saying the entire city wants parking lots and my personal taxes should be a net $0!!"

Well yeah, since he ended up with 20,981, I think he still has 14k+ votes. Matsikoudis is running a Washington Generals campaign - seems like Fulop (even with fatigue/disappointment) should be 2:1 at least. Some people will vote for Matsikoudis as a protest, but he doesn't seem to have any meaningful, passionate constituency. The real limiter on Fulop's ability to run up impressive numbers won't be Matsikoudis as much as it will be turnout, I'd think.

Obama endorsements carried little weight with the electorate. He endorsed Jon Corzine for reelection against an relatively unknown Republican US Attorney from northern NJ. Healy was one of the first big city mayors to support Obama against Hillary in 2008. It was a little help for a FOO.

Thank god we have Fulop and not de Blasio! I'm an ultra-liberal democrat, but if NYC avoids a big mess in the next four years, it will be despite the best efforts of that self-proclaimed progressive asshat.

Jersey City Mayor Healy concedes race to challenger Steven Fulop

By Michaelangelo Conte | The Jersey Journal

on May 14, 2013 at 8:48 PM, updated May 14, 2013 at 10:24 PM

Jersey City Mayor Jerramiah T. Healy just called the election for challenger Steven Fulop.

"If there is anything I can do to help him out after the transition, I stand ready, willing, and able to do it," Healy said.

His comments drew cheers from a tearful crowd at his Oakland Avenue headquarters. The crowd chanted back "We love you, mayor."

"Thank you all and God bless you all, by the way, I am still going to Casino in the Park," the mayor said, referring to the Jersey City catering house where a celebration was planned.

When he called the race the screen in the front of the room read, "Fulop 52.1 percent of the vote (14,675 votes), while Healy tallied 38.6 percent (10,860 votes.)

After he conceded, Healy walked outside and hugged supporters and apologized for not having won.

He noted to The Jersey Journal that he'd been mayor for 8 1/2 years and a councilman at large for 3 1/2 years.

He said the campaign worked very hard and raised enough money to be competitive.

"I think the people of Jersey City get sick of you after a while," Healy said. "I guess I'll check to see if my law license is still in good standing."

The mayor walked away with his police chief, Tom Comey.

Where did you get those numbers? Fulop had more than 20,000 votes. Also, there was a third candidate (Jerry Walker) who pulled about 8% of the vote.

Still, turnout was less than 30%. In a somewhat more competitive (albeit thoroughly unexciting) governor's race than last time, you'd think the mayor's race would pull closer to 50,000 votes this time compared to the 40,000ish last time.

I have gotten around 10 Fulop mailers here in Ward C and none by Matsikoudis. Maybe he's focusing on other neighborhoods? I know they have less money. But I get Christmas and birthday cards from Yun for some reason. BOE candidates I've never heard of have sent me two mailers apiece.

There's no public polling data, but you can bet both sides are doing internal polling and have a pretty good idea where things stand. Just based on how he's running his campaign so far, it doesn't look like Fulop's even running a sweat and feels it's in the bag.
