Fruit guy was Bill Horton. He lived upstairs from me on Coles in the 80s. We always had about to rot bananas and other delicacies. If I recall he had a long fight over the eminent domain of his fruit stand, and I think it's just the landscaping on the southwest corner of the parking garage now. His fruit stand was more aesthetic.

Manila is the capital of the Philippines. A lot of Filipinos moved to Grove St in the late 70s and petitioned for a section of Grove to be renamed

I'm trying to do some research on my family. Both my mother and father, Jeanette and Albert (deceased), lived in Jersey City.

My mother's family owned a furniture store, their last name was Nyman. This probably would have been sometime between 1940 and 1960. The furniture store was sold and a grocery store built in its place.

My father's family owned a bakery, their last name was Somlo, same time period as above.

I don't know addresses or even names of the businesses. If anyone has any recollection, I would very much like to hear from you.

Who was the albino guy selling fruit and vegatables off of a truck where Newport now stands? I think he opened a store later. It was early eighties.

On Wayne Street across from #9's playground in the middle of the block was a Mom & Pop store. Pretty sure it was next to a Fire House Station. This is a real way back question. Love to hear from anyone who recalls the name of the store or anything about the owners.
While I'm at it, anyone recall a little shop named Georgie's on Wayne in the St. Bridget's neighborhood? It was a regular little store where you could get pretty much anything you need. He always had toys in the window.

I remember a produce guy in the 1960s and 70s. I'm not sure of we are thinking of the same guy.
This guy would have produce baskets in the back of his flatbed truck
and he would walk beside the truck yelling out things like:
"GET YOUR ONIONS, GET YOUR TOMATOES. He would walk next to the truck while someone drove it really slowly.
