Yes - I always try to put a tray under each washing machine & hot water heater - with one of those sensors ($10 -- 9 volt battery -- type)

I would also use them if needed in any other situation.

I use samsung smartthings , and they work great to provide a notification about the leak. It can be used with IFTTT app to send an email, sms or phonecall in case something happens.

However, in the heater, we have a sensor with actuator to really cut off the water supply. Obviously more expensive and not remotely monitored.

Does anyone use a water leak alarm to notify them of potential leaks under sinks, near washers and water heaters? There seems to be really cheap ones on the market and more expensive models connected to your phone. Do they work? Thanks in advance for any advice.
