JERSEY CITY -- The City Council will consider increased regulations regarding affordable housing, including a requirement that Jersey City residents have first crack at city-subsidized units set aside for low- and moderate-income people.

The measure (Ord. 17-055), up for initial approval at Wednesday's council meeting, would require developers of city-mandated affordable housing units to maintain quarterly lists of available units; start a wait list for people who want to live in the units; create a marketing plan for the units that the city would have to approve; and more.

The city would monitor the units to make sure Jersey City residents were given preference and that they do not exceed the income cap.
