JERSEY CITY -- The tearful son of a Jersey City businessman who died April 1 from injuries sustained in a November robbery appealed to the public today with the Hudson County prosecutor for information leading to the culprits' arrests.

"If anybody saw anything, however insignificant it might seem, it would be very helpful if they would give us information," Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said of the death of Irving J. Catlow Jr. 74, who owned Catlow Movers located at Summit and Laidlaw avenues.

The victim's son, Mark Catlow, said the business was started in 1932 by his grandfather. Mark Catlow has been running the company and will continue to do so.

At about 8:30 a.m. on Nov. 4, two men, one of them carrying a gun, entered the business and demanded money. Irving Catlow was struck in the head and face during a struggle, after which, the robbers fled with $400. Responding police officers found the man unconscious and had him rushed to the Jersey City Medical Center for treatment.

Mark Catlow said his father suffered a concussion, a broken eye socket and broken nose in the attack, but was released after 24 hours at the hospital. The following morning he got a call from his mother saying his father wanted to go back to the hospital because of enduring symptoms.

Irving Catlow was taken to Morristown Medical Center, but when he was to be released a week later, the effects of a blood clot took hold. The father was placed in a medically-induced coma and died earlier this month, the 47-year-old son said.

One robber was described as short and the other as tall. One of them was armed with a chrome handgun, Suarez said.

Irving Catlow is survived by his wife of 52 years, Gail A. (Morrison); his children, Stacey Catlow-Zebian and Mark Catlow; his grandson, Anthony Catlow; his twin sister, Linda Reinbold and his nephews, Frank and Michael Reinbold, according to his obituary.

The obituary describes Irving Catlow as a thoughtful, generous, caring, hilarious and loving workaholic. It says, "He was truly cared for by everyone in his community, having the endearing nickname of 'Dad.'"
