That's a great summary view, thanks. Are you signed up to receive these types of alerts?

Good morning - no, I was just roaming around NOAA and found that link here. Click on LATEST WINTER STORM BRIEFING PACKAGE link at the top of the page. MDM is the pro, though.

The Euro model updated a few hours ago. It increased the snow fall estimates from the previous model run.

Given that the images are for next week's forecast, you have to subtract 4 hours.

Yup. Bodhipooh beat me to it on this. I used to travel to England fairly often and we don't change our clocks the same day they do.

MDM, Thanks for forecasting efforts. You were days ahead of the various online sites regarding next week. The snow is probably my fault -- I put away my rubber boots in the (silly) hope that Spring was coming. Silly me...

NOAA's latest for Monday:

Attention then shifts to an energy laced polar jet with Pacific
energy dropping down the front side of the upper ridge across
western Canada and into the Northern Plains early next week,
amplifying the upper trough across the Great Lakes and eastern
Canada. The last 24 hours the global models have all come into
better agreement with significant cyclogenesis off the Mid
Atlantic coast during the Tuesday into Wednesday timeframe. In
addition, with a cold high in place to the north, any
precipitation would likely be in the form of snow. There are
though differences in the magnitude and timing of the upper
trough, with the models ejecting a series of lows off the Mid
Atlantic coast Sunday through Tuesday. The question will be
whether a more consolidated upper trough, and deeper surface
low is close enough to the coast to bring a significant
snowstorm to the region Tuesday into early Wednesday. Systems
thus far this year have been more progressive in nature due to
the fast flow and lack of blocking. For the time, have mentioned
snow in the forecast Monday night into early Tuesday. Its much
too early to be specific with the details, but clearly something
to be watched.

The time stamps are in Zulu time. Add 5 hours to convert to Eastern time.

Slight correction: First, Zulu time is the same as GMT, so it ALWAYS remains constant, but *our* relationship to it does not. At the current time, we are "GMT-5:00" So, at 0600Z, it means 1:00 AM over here in the East Coast. In other words, you have to subtract five, not add 5. But, that is only because we are in EST (Eastern Standard Time). Once Sunday rolls around and we go into EDT, our relationship/difference from Zulu/GMT is going to be "-4" hours.

You can achieve the same slower result by adding multiple duplicates of the same image. For example, have 3 or 4 of each, so you end up with the same image shown multiple times, achieving more or less the same effect as a slower GIF of single images.

MDM- where do you get your great maps?

After getting frustrated with the news basically lying about hurricane Irene's intensity (for ratings) I purchased a subscription to Weatherbell. It gives me access to whole bunch of models. Being a total nerd I like to go through them every now and again.

Yea!

I think the models are not in agreement for Monday/Tuesday. The Euro is usually more accurate right. The temp contrasts at this time of year can generate very intense storms.

Wow -- I saw that Accuweather was saying 1 to 2 inches of snow this Friday (early in the day) -- but as far as next week -- they are saying really nothing major.

The Euro model is now agreeing more with the GFS, showing a fairly big storm(s) next week. GFS I think is showing three different systems hitting us from around Tuesday thru Friday.
