I remember someone posting that her boyfriend worked for a painting company but was open to moonlighting, but I can't find it at all. Was I hallucinating? I need an assistant, not a contractor.

+100 on Nick. Just hired him for a condo paint job and he did an amazing job - at half the cost of another contractor's quote. Very nice guy with a clean crew who were all business. He only uses Benjamin Moore paint to ensure quality and will go out of his way to help you with your job. Cannot say enough nice things about the experience.

Buzz at pro painters is meticulous and reasonably priced. He and his guys painted our entire house after a renovation and spent a lot of extra time on plastering and priming. He also gave input on colors. He now owns the Bike Hub (on Monticello at Jewett) so you'd have to check with him about availability.

Indeed, it's a lost art but I know a few guys that still do it. Most of the time the plaster can be rekeyed with buttons, any missing areas rebuilt with structo for the base, and veneered with a good lime based product like master of plaster. Dustless and thus much less messy then mucking about with rock and mud. Plus you don't have to shim out of wack framing that was originally intended for lath and plaster.

I didn't think such an animal existed anymore! Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't there no point in that unless you're going to strip the wall down to bare plaster 1st? That's usually many layers of paint and a few of wallpaper. As I've heard it, not having actually priced it, the cost of that plus the plasterer (and fixing unkeyed areas) is higher than demo to the studs and new drywall, so unless you're an obsessive restorer, it's not worth it. OTOH knowing someone who could put new plaster over the old lath and allow saving of the old trimwork when the wall is beyond skim coating would be valuable.

Also, in my experience, the paint and wallpaper is all that's holding the old plaster walls together. Some of the original building quality here was crap, recently I had to pull down a plaster ceiling that was unsavable because it was only 1/4" thick over much of the ceiling, that's browncoat and skim.

You don't need a painter, you need to have those walls skimmed by a plasterer. Note I said "plasterer." If you call a drywaller they'll, at best, skim coat with joint compound and repair damage with durabond. Don't use gypsum products on your plaster walls! PM me if you'd like a referral for a plasterer that uses lime based restoration plaster.

I'm looking for an interior painter who specializes in rejuvenating old horsehair/plaster. I need wallpaper removed and a good skim coat to smooth out these 115 year old walls. Obviously I already checked the various internet sources but everybody says they can do it just to get the work. Who got a good guy??? Any recommendations are greatly appreciated.

I do interior painting myself- no crew.
I've done high end work in SOHO, Tribeca and Park Ave in NYC as well as JC.
Have references...

Hi guys. I need to repaint, but am looking for a super-neat, responsible painter. Guys I've hired in the past have ended up having day laborers come in that got paint on my rugs/sofa etc. I'd like to find someone that does it on their own and is neat and respectful. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!!

I'm having my condo painted today and tomorrow by John Taglieri @ 201-628-1822. He's painted 2 of my neighbors places, great job and great rate. I can let you know how it turns out after he's completed.

I cannot say enough good things about Peter Volaric, who replastered and painted a Victorian living room on a tight schedule. Peter and his assistant impressed by restoring a room with trim and detail that had long been neglected. Always on time. A pleasure to work with. He may charge more than average but he'll likely spend more time on the job than most painters. You can reach him at (201) 218-3554.

I've used John Beers from Brushworks painting in Hoboken numerous times. The guy is completely above board and does a great job.

You should definitely contact Jaime Toledo (973) 572-2125
He is a profesional painter and actually just did my apartment over the past weekend.
Super professional, reliable, absolutely amazing job, very perfectionist and very reasonable prices.
Highly recommended.

Hello All,

This is Nick, the Jersey City painter. I appreciate all the feedback. We really try to provide quality painting services.

If we did not meet your expectations - please kindly email us - and I will do my best to fix all the issues personally.
We had several minor complaints last year about my assistant, but to the best of my knowledge we were able to resolve them:
http://www.yelp.com/biz/jersey-city-painter-jersey-city

Please note that the mentioned assistant is no longer with us and we are actively looking for a reliable replacement. Again, I really try to satisfy our customers expectations.

But if anything, please kindly email us directly at 07302handyman@gmail.com or contact us at http://www.07302handyman.com.

Thanks,
Nick.

And when you do remove the plates you should put the plate screws back on the holes of the outlet so you don't loose the screws when you are ready to put the plates back. Plus it makes it easier to paint around the outlet and the brush doesn't get near the outlet when painting around it.

not taking outlet plates off etc is unacceptable. no offense, but nick and his helper seem like total amateurs. i would never hire someone, even for a rental, that did not pay attention to detail. and saying he would come back to fix his mistakes and then never hearing from him again? forget it!

Nick said he'd come back and fix the issues. Never heard from him again.

I used Nick. Very nice and reliable. His helper is a young guy with an attitude who doesn't care. Be aware that you have to tell them NOT to paint over your outlets. And you have to tell them things like you want your baseboards painted. He said he'd come back to paint them but never did. I'm also still trying to get paint off my hardwood floors.

He was affordable but the job was a little too slapdash.
