The cameras are in addition to or replace ones already there. I bet those voicing "a little dissent", here, are unlikely to have ever set foot in that area and the reason for such is the very same reason the city has installed the cameras.

Cop-arazzi! Jersey City adding surveillance cams to high-crime hot spots

The bad guys had better be ready for their "close-up."

Jersey City officials said that 40 new surveillance cameras -- which will produce images that are five times clearer than in the past -- will be installed in high-crime hot spots in 2018 as part of the city's CCTV program. The new cameras will be bring the total to 197 across the city, officials said.

Four high-definition fixed cameras will be placed at intersections of Dwight and Ocean avenues, Winfield and Ocean avenues, Bartholdi and Ocean avenues, Fulton and Ocean avenues, Lexington and Bergen avenues, Bayview and Garfield avenues, Monticello and Brinkerhoff avenues, Monticello and Belmont avenues, Monticello and Jewett avenues, and Monticello and Gardner avenues.

Let's hope 'Joe Citizen' can request access for CCTV footage for civil issues too!

High res digital modern cameras that will thwart crime in the problem areas or at least get clear images of the savages who commit them.

Next will be allowing stop and frisk policies to keep that area safe - keeping the decent folk who live there some sense of security.

All good in the Da Hood.....

Erm.... Yeah... No.

The current trend is away from stop & frisk, since it generated a massive lawsuit and loss in NYC.

Also, S&F is not a reason to either adopt or reject police cameras. The two are independent, and there is no slippery slope.

Just because I'm paranoid doesn't mean they aren't after you to.

You'll have to excuse me for caring about the mass surveillance of the general public on the grounds of "public safety". In my mind, the end will never justify the means. Where will this footage be kept? Who has access to this footage? How long will it be kept? Can we submit a FOI request to see the footage for ourselves?

I'm sure you're of the mindset that if you're not doing anything illegal you don't have anything to worry about.

Paranoid much??? No I am of the mindset that if by some chance there happens to be massive flooding in DTJC, the people that will save your sorry ass will be able to do so in a safe effective manner.

I am sure JC OEM would love to show you around and answer your questions. BTW Hudson County OEM in Kearny has a similar state of the art facility. Put your aluminum foil hat back and go back to watching our next president getting sworn into office.

Thanks for the stupid uninformed comment... You need to visit Jersey City OEM. In the Command Center much of DTJC is wired. The purpose is to look for real time views of life/safety threats or incidents impacting the city. Next step is to allocate first responder resources appropriately.

I am sure you and your anarchist friends will dress appropriately when you decide to incite anti-Trump riots this weekend.

New CCTV cameras being installed in Jersey City

By Patrick Villanova | The Jersey Journal
on January 20, 2017 at 8:49 AM, updated January 20, 2017 at 8:50 AM

The installation of new CCTV cameras on Jersey City streets and in parks has begun.

The City Council in December approved two contracts worth more than $600,000 to purchase and install 62 cameras throughout the city. The City has since contracted with Millennium Communications Group, which had workers out Thursday installing advanced fiber optic cable in preparation for the placement of the new cameras.
