Development brings people and people brings cars. This administration wants to beat Newark in population. The goal of beating Newark adds to the problem in addition all new buildings now are under Redevelopment plans which ignores traffic studies.

Maybe it's not the money that is keeping these newbies from staying in Nyc. J.C. seems to have a lackadaisical attitude and effort towards enforcement so the city becomes inviting for the lazy ignorant rule breakers.

I work for a NYC agency, and recently attended a meeting at the NYC Department of Transportation - the level of thought and planning being put into planning and infrastructure improvements in New York to calm traffic, make the city more accessible to cyclists and pedestrians of all levels of mobility, and to make the streets greener is astounding.

I truly believes this goes beyond resources - it's a matter of culture and leadership. Here, in Jersey City, Mayor Fulop needed to be dragged kicking and screaming to the table while SafeStreets raised the issue after people were being mowed down on JFK Boulevard. He and his administration have showed an abysmal lack of leadership on anything to do with public safety and quality of life in Jersey City - IMO, the improvements in NYC and other cities start with leadership.

The urban culture is a harder thing to change, admittedly, although NYC planners talk convincingly about a "diet" on vehicular use. I've lived here for 8 years, and continue to be appalled by the pathologically anti-social so many JC residents exhibit - especially behind the wheel.

Anyone who's driven in Little India can tell you, it's a shit show of jaywalkers (and aggressive drivers).

Phone number is not required. Name & email, however, are. We comply with all CAN-SPAM laws and you can unsubscribe from any emails - which we only send intermittently - at any time.

unfortunately I believe a lot of people will be dissuaded from filling this out based on the requirement that email and phone be provided. Last thing I want is my contact info circulating or being added to a newsletter.

Safe Streets JC is a new grassroots organization focused on improving Traffic Safety in Jersey City, city-wide. We'd like to know what Traffic Safety concerns our fellow residents have. Please take our new survey here:
tinyurl.com/SSJC-Survey1701.

We had a successful meeting with Mayor Fulop & Director Shea last month wherein they committed to launching - and they have since done so - a traffic safety unit within the JCPD. They will be expanding this unit and its ability to work citywide, and they committed to our next public meeting with them in March.

On Sat. Feb 18th, from 10:30-12:30pm, we'll be having a community meeting to brainstorm resident traffic issues and priorities in preparation for the March meeting. This will be held at Grace Van Vorst Church, on 2nd st. Everyone is welcome to attend and share ideas and concerns.

In the meantime - please take our quick survey. You can also join our Facebook group to trade ideas and note issues of concern.

We look forward to your participation!
