(heaps up another bad traffic weekend in JC)

Lane closure on Turnpike's Hudson extension expected to cause delays Nov. 18-20

Drivers traveling west on the Newark Bay-Hudson County Extension of the New Jersey Turnpike this weekend could be in for heavy delays because of a lane closure, Turnpike officials said.

One westbound lane of the between interchanges 14C and 14A in Hudson County will be closed this weekend while construction crews make repairs to the bridge deck, officials said, noting that traffic impacts could be severe during peak travel times.

The lane will close at 9 p.m. tonight and remain closed through 5 a.m. Monday, Nov. 21. Only one lane will get by between mileposts 6.0 and 2.8 (Kennedy Boulevard). To avoid delays, drivers should choose alternate routes, especially between 8 a.m. and 10 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

This lane closing is necessary to address high priority and emergent repairs in the deck of the westbound extension. The lane closure has been coordinated with the ongoing projects on the Pulaski Skyway and the Bayonne Bridge, both of which will remain open to westbound traffic this weekend.

Drivers are encouraged to download the SafeTripNJ app for their iPhones or Android devices or call 511 from any telephone for real-time information about traffic conditions, Turnpike officials said.

Live camera views of traffic conditions on the Extension are available on the Turnpike Authority's website.
