And criminal... I would have filed a police report for blackmail. If you are knowingly (and, unlawfully) holding someone else's private property (as pets are classified) and demanding that a ransom be paid for its return, you are a criminal. Pretty sad that they would stoop to that level.

A Jersey City resident's tears of sadness have turned to tears of joy after her 3-year-old Maltese was found safe and sound and returned to her.

...On Saturday Cabell's prayers were answered when she received a call from a Jersey City resident who saw the story in The Jersey Journal, Cabell said.

...But the drama wasn't over yet, as the caller asked if there was a reward for the dog's return, and then hung up the phone. A short while later, the caller asked for $100 reward, because "we've been feeding her since we found her," Cabell said.

Jersey City resident seeks help in finding her missing Maltese

A devastated Mercer Street resident is putting out the call to all her Jersey City neighbors to help find her 3-year-old dog.

Ka'Lar, an 18-pound Maltese, went missing from 489 Mercer St. on Tuesday, Sept. 13, said his owner, Donna Cabell. Ka'Lar is white and had a red collar with no tags or identification, Cabell said.

Apparently Cabell's front door was not shut properly on Tuesday and little Ka'Lar slipped outside, Cabell said.

Cabell's search for her dog has been a struggle because she is recovering from a medical procedure. Cabell said through tears that she has contacted the city, and the shelters have been checked, without success.

Anyone with information on Ka'Lar is asked to call Cabell at 551-263-8372.
