Yes, you can transfer the pass from one car to another without issues. It is a hanging pass. You get it from the TVMs across from the Park & Ride area. Each month, they have a different color and the month is printed on it. You hang the pass from your rearview mirror.

So if I have two cars is this monthly pass transferable between them -- meaning can I switch back and forth which car I leave there? Also What is the name of this -- where do you go to buy the pass -- is there a website - and phone number etc?

Yes, passes go on sale about 10 days before the beginning of the month, and remain on sale until sold out, or until the 7th of day of the month, whichever comes first. Hence my suggestion the other day to get there as early possible. I have seen it happen where passes sold out for a given month.

And, of course, passes are for calendar months: January, February, etc.

I misspoke, but what I meant to say (apropos the original poster needing it when he did) was that you can't buy them after the seventh of any month, Bodi is right about them being available towards the end of the previous month.

As Bodi mentioned a few posts above, monthly passes are only available for purchase the first seven days of the month, and can sell out (they have a limited number) before the seventh day anyway. I would think that some of the new residents of the Baker Building nearby on Suydam are using this, so that may add to the number of people looking to take those monthly spots.

The other poster says passes go on sale the 19th of the prior month, and you are saying they go on sale the 1st of the month for which the pass is used.

Does anyone have a concrete answer?
Are these available from the kiosk?

Additionally, I assume there is no way to park while out of town if your trip spans the end of one month and the beginning of the next?

just went over there. "we're sorry, monthly parking is sold out for the current sales period. please be advised that monthly parking permits are sold starting the 19 of the preceding month at 5 pm (e.g. Jan permits go on sale Dec 19 5 pm)"

I am guessing that monthly passes are not for a 30 day period, but rather the month. So this does not help me.

One other thing I forgot to mention/explain in my previous reply: if you need to park your car while you are away traveling, you will need to buy a monthly pass. There is no way to pay for a given amount of days. Daily parking must be paid at a parking machine/station every day (officially, on the stroke of midnight, but this is not enforced until morning) so your only option while traveling is to have a monthly pass. Those passes are only sold during the first seven days of the month, or until sold out, whichever comes first. So, get yourself to the Park & Ride lot tonight, or tomorrow morning.

Extremely helpful - thank you for this information.

I've been thinking about buying a car and parking it there, so this is very useful info. Thanks Bodhipooh!

Disregard what FAB said... The LSP Park & Ride is 100% safe and secure. It has 24-hour security, with security guards on two separate jeeps patrolling the premises regularly. Sometimes these guards just sit in their vehicles and spend the night chatting (to each other and sometimes on cell phone) but they do make rounds regularly. I parked there for close to two years, and never had an issue. Many of my neighbors at the Foundry also parked their cars there. For the price and safety/security, it is the best value in JC.

There are 24 hour patrols by uniformed staff at this lot, it might be the safest place to park in JC.

It all depends on what set of wheel rims you have on your car and make / model. This said, I understand there is night lighting and maybe cctv, so I'd park up under lights and within close proximity to the cctv or where there might be high pedestrian traffic flow like near the ticket machines or as close as you can to the platform etc.

Hide any crap you have in your glove box or trunk and lift / open your center console compartment lid and ashtray so petty thieves will not have to guess you have coins in them.

Liberty State Park
This Park & Ride is located in Downtown Jersey City. It is adjacent to Liberty State Park and is located off of Duarte Drive (formally Johnston Avenue) directly behind the Liberty Science Center. The site has access to the Hudson Bergen Light Rail Transit (HBLRT) system. It is accessible from the New Jersey Turnpike off the first exit ramp at 14C east bound. $3.45/DAY OR $57.50/MONTH.

So, I need to park my car there for 10 or 11 days while I am out of town. Is 3.45 per day correct / 57.50 per month. Anyone else use LSP light rail to park? Is it safe to leave car there?
