Nope. I've been a FiOS customer for at least 10 years and aside from Sandy I've only had (I think) only two minor outages. I do tech support independently and I've had blazing speed. The DNS server changes once in awhile so a reboot of your router (presumably set for a DyDNS connection) will set you right. Simple, and a quick test can confirm it-

I lost it as well, actually all three. Called tech kinda vague but eventually helpful. Tried the advice but no avail, hours later pulled both power plugs, hours later plugged them back in, back in business. Funny though none of my FiOS neighbors were out.
