I agree with Frinjc if it's a brick house but the Q posted today was regarding a wall in an apartment. You may have to deal with Condo Association, etc. and go through a bunch of hoops, including a certificate of approval from a structural engineer No two apartment buildings are the same, so can't help any more than that-

If your house is narrow and brick (<16 feet wide), it may not be necessary. If wider and/or wood supported, I would suggest you use a structural engineer first. I have used Dunne and Markis in the past for some work in my house. Would use them again, nice folks.
