I agree with Frinjc if it's a brick house but the Q posted today was regarding a wall in an apartment. You may have to deal with Condo Association, etc. and go through a bunch of hoops, including a certificate of approval from a structural engineer No two apartment buildings are the same, so can't help any more than that-

If your house is narrow and brick (<16 feet wide), it may not be necessary. If wider and/or wood supported, I would suggest you use a structural engineer first. I have used Dunne and Markis in the past for some work in my house. Would use them again, nice folks. http://www.dunneandmarkis.com/contact.html

I'm looking into removing a wall in my house and moving a couple of walls to create close space. I realize that moving walls can be a serious undertaking if they are load-bearing. I was wondering if anyone had recommendations for licensed contractors they've used for this kind of work.

I'm new to this home-ownership thing and would rather pay a little more for the peace of mind that comes with knowing my house won't fall down around my ears.

Thanks in advance.
