Jury acquits man in murder of Dickinson High student in 2016

Emotion overwhelmed an 18-year-old Jersey City man when the jury took only a few hours of deliberation to find him not guilty on all six counts he faced in the murder of a Dickinson High School student.

"Thank you very much for a fair trial your honor," said a choked up Isaiah Huggins to Hudson County Superior Court Judge Mark Nelson after the verdict was rendered at 4:15 p.m.

The 16-year-old Jersey City boy accused in the fatal shooting of a 17-year-old earlier this year will be tried for murder as an adult, authorities said yesterday.

Snyder High School student Isaiah Huggins, of Wilkerson Avenue, was charged as a juvenile on April 30 and had his waiver hearing last week. The criminal complaint says he was arrested as an adult yesterday on the charges of the murder of Dickinson High School student Rondell Rush, possession of a handgun for an unlawful purpose and unlawful possession on a handgun.

Actually there is more larceny in the East (Hamilton Park, Van Vorst Park, Harsimus Cove and Paulus Hook) than any other district in Jersey City - not surprising as you steal from where the money is naturally.

And get this, there were 8 forcible entry burglaries, and 11 total in March alone. That's a break in once every 3 days. Total serious crimes numbered 90 for March, so 3 per day on average.

So yeh, go ahead and leave you windows unlocked.

I don't live in Van Vorst, so let's keep my windows out of this discussion.
I?m not saying there is no crime in VVP or any of the downtown locations you mentioned. This is city. Even in the most expensive Manhattan neighborhoods you will find crime. But you're also cherry picking one category of crime, larceny. It is petty larceny to steal the change in my car. Thankfully, stolen change is the only crime I've experienced downtown. Guess what? It didn?t make me feel any less safe.
Judging by this crime map, I'm not wrong feeling much safer in VVP (or in HP/PH/HC) rather than in Arlington Park.

I'm torn on the car locking issue.

Locking prevents the guy who walks around pulling on handles until he finds a winner from stealing my change.

Unlocking prevents the guy with the screwdriver who breaks my lock, then steals my change.

So far, unlocked has cost me less.

Don't lock your windows, unlock them. Remove your roll gates.

Yeah, leave your cars unlocked and your auto start keyfobs in the glove box!

Before you shell out money for high rents, always challenge the illusion of safety in your area. The murder rate is heating up, so lock your windows folks.

said the man with nothing to loose.

Its not about wanting a nicer neighborhood. My point is that you need to be aware of where you live, and there is a high crime element within a stones throw away. High rent does not equate to safety.

A man, described as in his 30s, was fatally shot early this morning in the area of Clinton Avenue and Grand Street in Jersey City, authorities confirmed this morning.

Jersey City police and members of the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office were on the scene near Arlington Park, at 12:30 a.m. this morning investigating the homicide.

The homicide is the ninth in Hudson County this year and second in nine days. Rondell Rush, a 17-year-old Dickinson High School student, was fatally shot on April 27 and died from his injuries on April 28.
