New Jersey man hides license plate in trunk to avoid paying toll

A scofflaw who owes E-ZPass more than $12,000 took his license plate off his car and stashed it in his trunk to avoid paying a toll at the Holland Tunnel, cops said.

Oscar Sanchez, 45, of Jersey City, was caught Tuesday afternoon, as he drove his 2001 Mercedes into Manhattan, Port Authority police spokesman Joseph Pentangelo.

Sanchez, who had a suspended driver's license, said he did not have an E-ZPass, Pentangelo said.

Sanchez is accused of evading tolls more than 200 times, Pentangelo said.
