A city man has been charged with driving drunk and striking a Port Authority maintenance truck on his way to Manhattan, according to police.

At 2:30 a.m., Daniel J. Subrer, 30, of Pine Street struck the rear end of the truck with his Nissan Altima while entering the New York-bound tube of the Holland Tunnel in Jersey City, according to Port Authority police spokesman Joe Pentangelo.

The right lane, where the truck was located, was closed to facilitate maintenance with a series of cones, sign boards and signals, Pentangelo said.

After the collision, the Nissan's front bumper was hanging off and banging against the front end of the car, but Subrer continued to drive through the tunnel, police said. Police stopped him after he exited the tunnel in Manhattan.

An officer smelled alcohol on Subrer's breath, and Subrer said he had been drinking Budweiser beer and vodka, Pentangelo said. He then failed a field sobriety test and a breathalyzer test, and was arrested, police said.

Pentangelo said Subrer's blood alcohol content was 0.14.
