Walking through two bank-owned homes in Harrison Township recently, Realtor Nancy Kowalik pointed out the highs of lows of buying foreclosed properties.

One, located on White Oak Trail, is in decent condition. The place is clean, appears fairly well-maintained and there has been no obvious vandalism to the property.

"It's in pretty good shape," said Kowalik, of Nancy Kowalik Real Estate Group in Mullica Hill. "And this is a rarity."

More often, foreclosures aren't so tidy.

A property on Harrisonville Road is a prefect example. Listed at $1.2 million in 2007, it's currently listed at $339,000.

Where does a buyer begin?
