your mortgage company will have a $ amount the insurance should be - and that should match your condo's flood insurance. If not, your building might be under-insured. If all the correct, you shouldn't have to get extra insurance. Just make sure each year the certificate of insurance is updated and sent to the mortgage company. They don't necessary have the ability to find it themselves so you have to keep track of its expiration date and send the new one in.

Hello,

I'm in the process of buying a condo close to the waterfront (Paulus Hook). I wanted to see if flood insurance for my individual unit will be required? The building itself has flood insurance for the common area and the building as a whole (It is in a flood zone)

I will be on the 7th floor so I thought it wouldn't be necessary but I just got questioned about it so I just wanted to check what everyone's experience has been?

Thanks!
