Five people, including a sergeant and two children, were injured early this morning when a police vehicle was involved in an accident at Ocean and Bidwell avenues, police said in radio transmissions.

The accident occurred at about 12:40 a.m., police said in a radio transmission, adding that none of the injuries appeared to be life-threatening.

All five people were taken to the Jersey City Medical Center-Barnabas Health and the Jersey City Fire Department also responded because smoke was coming from at least one of the vehicles involved in the accident, police said in radio transmissions.

The sergeant involved in the accident suffered a head injury and was bleeding, police said.
