Feast of Mt. Carmel continues tonight in Jersey City

JERSEY CITY -- The annual Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church Feast, which kicked off Thursday, continues tonight on Wales Avenue between West Side Avenue and Broadway.

After tonight, the festival will take a two-day hiatus, and then finish up July 15 and 16.

And while games, music, raffles and so much more make this festival special, the star attraction this year is a new statue of the Virgin Mary.

"I've been taking care of the statue for years," Carol Aldanese, a volunteer at the feast, told The Jersey Journal. "This is the first year we have the new one."

JERSEY CITY -- The rides, games and food are all still there, but the annual Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church Feast that kicked off last night has a new addition. The more than 100-year-old church on Broadway and Wales Avenue in Jersey City now has a new statue of the Virgin Mary.

"I've been taking care of the statue for years," said Carol Aldanese, a volunteer at the feast. "This is the first year we have the new one."

The feast, which kicked off last night,(July 9) takes place each night through July 12 and then after a two day break finishes up on July 15 and 16. The festival stretches from Wales Avenue to West Side Avenue on Broadway and has classic carnival games along with bounce houses and a ferris wheel.

Games, rides, food at Our Lady of Mount Carmel's feast

Our Lady of Mount Carmel's feast featuring games, rides, and food will open Thursday July 9, and run through July Sunday, July 12 and then again on July 15, 16 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 99 Broadway, Jersey City.

The feast will run from 6:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. on weekdays and from 6:30 p.m. to midnight on weekends.

Music and entertainment will include "The Remnants" on July 9, "The Cameos" on July 10, "Everybody's Everything" on July 11, "Total Soul" on July 12, "D'Executives" on July 15, and "John Christian Entertainment" on July 16. All performances will take place at 7 p.m.
