I thought that Fulop's new law effectively banned all chain stores downtown, so you won't see any of these options.

Most retail spaces do not have a separate partition for 30% of the ground space.

If a demand for this sort of food exists, it can be met by independently owned stores, no need to resort to chains. How close to the Chickpea menu is the stuff served at Ibby's and Gypsy Grill?

These chains already have the operational side of fast "healthy" food down pat. It would not be easy (or likely) for an indie to do the same thing IMO

A digg in like biz would make a killing in dtjc. There are no healthy and wholesome takeaway meal options.

Unless Chickpea serves painfully thirsty bloggers that would interview a door knob if it meant they could pose in front of it I don't think there's any confusion.

New Middle Eastern restaurant 'Chickpea' open in Journal Square Transportation Center

Resized Image

Rebecca Panico | The Jersey Journal

Travelers passing through the Journal Square Transportation Center now have a Middle Eastern dining option with the opening of a new Chickpea restaurant yesterday.

On the menu at Chickpea are several gluten-free, lactose-free, vegetarian, vegan, organic and spicy options like falafel or spicy Mediterranean chicken that customers can design themselves at the counter.

The owner, Mike Himani, has also developed several other dining spots in the New Jersey and New York area, including an Asian-fusion Nanking with locations in Jersey City, Long Island and South Plainfield. He's also developed a Deli Plus and Chop n' Toss, as well catering services like Elite Caterers and All About Food.

The Chickpea restaurant is the first of several planned openings of stores in the Journal Square Transportation Center.
