Two city men in their teens have been charged with the murder of a 50-year-old man who was working on a parked car when he was shot in the head last month by what police believe to have been a stray bullet, officials said this afternoon.

Bail has been set at $500,000 cash only for Marquis Allen, 18, and James Wheeler, 19, who were arrested late yesterday afternoon in Newark and charged with the May 27 murder of Larry Darnell Freeman, Hudson County Assistant Prosecutor Gene Rubino said.

Freeman was shot on Sackett Street between Atlantic Street and Bramhall Avenue at about 2:40 p.m and he was pronounced dead at the scene about 10 minutes later, Rubino said.

Both defendants are also charged with possession for a firearm for an unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of a fire arm. They are scheduled to make their first court appearance on the charges at 3 p.m. today in Central Judicial Processing court in Jersey City, Rubino said.

Two men appeared in court in Jersey City today on weapons offenses related to guns that a law enforcement official said is connected to the fatal shooting on Sackett Street in Jersey City Wednesday.

"The weapons involved have been linked to a homicide earlier this week," the prosecutor said today when Alysine M. Choudry, 25, of Trenton, and Jamil R. Walker, 25, of New Brunswick, appeared in Central Judicial Processing court.

A law enforcement official who asked to remain anonymous because he is not authorized to speak about the investigation confirmed the guns were linked to the fatal shooting of Larry Freeman, 50.

Hmmmmm Interesting none of them are from Jersey City

RIP to the victim. This is just the beginning of a violent
summer. Can anyone do something to stop the violence.
This city needs strong leaders not someone with further ambitions.

Man shot dead in Jersey City was struck by stray bullet, neighbors say

By Erika Solorzano | The Jersey Journal
on May 27, 2015 at 4:45 PM

JERSEY CITY -- The man who was shot dead on Sackett Street this afternoon was a "good guy" who was struck by a stray bullet while working on a car in the street, residents in the neighborhood said.

A woman who lives in the area said the man's name was Larry and he is always seen working on cars on the block between Atlantic Street and Bramhall Avenue.

"He was innocent," said Tonya, who did not want to give her last name. "He didn't deserve to be shot like that. He fixed my car just last month."

Other people who live in the neighborhood said the same thing, that the victim was working under the hood of a car when he was shot.

JJ piece..

Man is found shot dead on Jersey City street

A man was found shot dead this afternoon on Sackett Street in Jersey City, according to police radio transmissions.

The man was shot once in the head, police said in radio transmissions.

Police responded at about 2:45 p.m. and cordoned off the area after a large crowd gathered near the scene of the fatal shooting, said Jersey Journal photographer Reena Rose Sibayan, who is at the scene.

Police have placed a canopy/tent over the body as they investigate. A black SUV with its hood propped open is parked near the shooting scene, but it is not known if it is related to the shooting.

Meanwhile, police are also currently responding to a separate report of shots fired at Dwight Street and Martin Luther King Drive, Jersey City public safety spokeswoman Carly Baldwin said.

"At this time we don't know if it's connected to the earlier shooting and police are still there investigating," Baldwin said, adding that there have not been any reports of injuries in connection to the second shooting.
