But I've signed up to get alerts via email - very useful info and you can control what types of alerts you want to receive.

You may want to refresh your browser cache. The very first entry from the link you posted clearly says fireworks are happening tomorrow night, at 10:15 PM.

LSP isn't even open at that hour, its posted closing is at 10. So you can't even go down and watch, if you're so inclined.

Awesome! They will likely get delayed and will go off at midnight, again. :)

Thank you for the heads up, though. Maybe I will go out and try to catch a glimpse.

Not that this helps very much, but here's a link to some Brooklyn blog about it:

http://mcbrooklyn.blogspot.com/2015/0 ... c-brooklyn-nj-sunday.html

I don't think "Karen" works at Swank Productions... it says "Pritzker" after the words "Swank Productions" so maybe it was put on by Karen Pritzker, one of the heiresses to the Hyatt Hotels fortune (among other investments). I don't know that for sure, however. The blog does confirm the show went on much later than scheduled.

Remember when the rich D-bag had a fireworks show at LSP for his kids First Birthday? I hope the kid went deaf.

Interestingly, the Islands are roughly equidistant from BPC and PH. And the winds tend to be from the S or W, so they should get a similar dose. A circle drawn with Ellis at it's center and HP on it's circumference would include most of Lower Manhattan below Worth St.

Definitely went off from this side of the Hudson - not Red Hook or Governors Island. If you stand in the middle of Warren Street looking south there is a pretty clear view of the Statue of Liberty, aka Liberty Island and Ellis Island is in the same sight line looking towards south. The fireworks barge was off to the east of Ellis Island.

Code of Federal Regulations, Volume 33, Issues 125-199

165.168 Safety Zones; Coast Guard Captain of the Port New York Fireworks Displays
(a) New York Harbor. The following areas are safety zones:
(1) Liberty Island Safety Zone: All waters of Upper New York Bay within 360-yard radius of the fireworks barge in approximate position 40?41'16.6" N 074?02'23" W located in Federal Anchorage 20-C, about 360 yards east of Liberty Island.
(2) Ellis Island Safety Zone: All waters of Upper New York Bay within 360-yard radius of the fireworks barge located between Federal Anchorages 20-A and 20-B, in approximate position 40?41'45" N 074?02'09" W about 365 yards east of Ellis Island.

I can only see a small sliver of unobstructed waterfront from my living room window, and the fireworks were definitely launched from Governor's Island or Red Hook. If it had been Ellis Island, I wouldn't have been able to see them at all. Also, I don't think NYC is able to approve fireworks to launch off Ellis or Liberty Islands. Wouldn't that be the jurisdiction of the National Parks Service?

Good question. I thought last night's fireworks were launched from Governor's Island or possibly Red Hook, but it was a bit hard to tell from the angle at my window. I was a surprised at the late hour - the only other time I can remember fireworks going off at midnight is New Year's. Anyway, as a night owl, it didn't awaken me, but I remember thinking people with small kids or who have to work in the morning are just gonna love this.

"Notify-NYC: Notification issued 5/23/15 at 12:00 PM. There will be a fireworks display off Ellis Island tomorrow, Sunday, May 24, at 10:30 PM."

I was wondering why they started an hour and an half late. We normally can't see the fireworks from the PAD but last night they were in full view. The definitely were not launching from the normal place.

Interesting. From my location in the PAD, I couldn't make them out, but then again I was in bed and too tired to get up and look for them. But, I could hear them clearly. I swear I could even feel some vibration from the booming and echo. Were the fireworks launching from further up on the Hudson and not right off Ellis Island? Or, was it just one of those random wind situations that carried the noise further inland by the PAD?

If you stood in the middle of Warren Street - looking towards Statue of Liberty - would have been the best view from PAD, albeit from the ground.

The noise from the boom echo was very loud downtown, as well. I am sure I wouldn't have been annoyed if I had not just gone to bed. I normally enjoy fireworks quite a bit, but midnight is no time for them.

This was ridiculous. We live in Liberty Towers facing the bay and my wife had just put our 3 month old to sleep. She ran out to check on him and sat with him while they went off. I groggily got out of bed and muttered some expletives. They went on for 10 minutes but it felt like an eternity.

We're already annoyed by the bass thumping from the Governors Island Beach Club concerts on Sunday nights in the summer. I thought last night was going to be quiet given no concert scheduled. I guess I was wrong.

Brewster - I totally agree! Just shook me right out of bed, complaining like a beast. And then my daughter accused me of wanting to kill fun, so I grumbled my way back to bed (and checked on JCList for some odd reason).

Now I feel better. Good night. Err, good morning. Sleep well, whatever.

I can't believe JC issued a fireworks permit for midnight. If so, heads should roll. I think these private party fireworks permits should be publicly posted on the city website. Then at the very least people can go see them if they have to be hearing them anyway. But not at midnight.
