Political Insider: Big winner in the 31st Legislative District primary is Fulop

It was a pounding – not even close. The only seriously contested race in the Democratic primary in Hudson County were for the two Assembly seats in the 31st Legislative District, which represents all of Bayonne and part of Jersey City. They were won by party favorites Nick Chiaravalloti, a Bayonne attorney and an ex-Mayor Joe Doria protégé, and Jersey City's Angela McKnight, a nonprofit founder and daughter-in-law of political operative and street guy Eugene McKnight.

The expected winners will tell you that they never doubted the outcome and that everything went according to plan but the truth is that there were no butterflies in the gut, more like bats. Even the most powerful elected officials always run as if someone was gaining on them – an expression I partially stole from Satchel Paige.
