Opinion: Councilwoman's actions reveal inability to separate partisan agenda from serving publicBy By JOSHUA SOTOMAYOR-EINSTEIN Yesterday's Jersey Journal piece about Jersey City Council President Joyce Watterman, entitled "Jersey City councilwoman uses City Hall office to fundraise," highlighted the negative confluence of progressive politics and Hudson County's elected leadership. Officeholders have had to fight long and hard to secure office but their jobs as officeholders and their personal partisan crusades should always remain separate. Jersey City councilwoman uses City Hall office to fundraiseBy JERSEY CITY -- City Councilwoman-at-large Joyce Watterman was caught this week using her City Hall office and taxpayer-funded aide to solicit donations to her political committee. Watterman, a Democrat who was first elected to the council in 2013, sent out invitations to a $100-a-head "birthday fundraiser" scheduled for tonight at Liberty House and included the phone number to her City Hall office on the invite. Sources told The Jersey Journal that Watterman's City Hall assistant also solicited donations from that office, which Watterman confirmed yesterday.
