The latest from NYC's City Hall are initiatives to facilitate affordable housing, including using waiving the parking requirement as an enticement. This link explains it in detail http://www.nyc.gov/html/dcp/html/zoning-qa/presentation.shtml but what struck me, and what may be pertinent to JC's situation, is that in NYC, they consider being within 1/2 mile walk of a subway station to be sufficiently close to transit so as not to need parking.
Has any similar study or map been done here in JC, relative to access to PATH or the light rail? IMO it would be a good place to start to better address the ongoing argument of the need for parking garages. E.g., my condo building in the Heights, which is 1.2 miles from JSQ or 1.4 miles from Hoboken maybe should have been required to include 1 spot per unit (we have 22 spots, for a 54 unit building). Developments in the "zone" might not need any/so many.
