And Tabatchnicks. And Wiglers. And the bookie at the newsstand, Mr. Mikes. There is a guy making mead at the mall now, though I haven't stopped by yet.

Try Councilman Yun's store up in the Heights. Garden State News on the corner of Bowers Street and Central Ave.

If you're in the area, head east a bit on Springfield Avenue for the best fried chicken in NJ at Church's Family Kitchen (not the chain). They close Sun/Mon, and if you don't call ahead you'll wait 20 minutes, but it's amazing. Just on the other side of Vaux Hall Road past the three gas station corner. Tell Judi I sent you!

You are, of course, correct! I mostly say "Millburn" because when I tell people I am going to "Vauxhall" that is greeted with a blank stare and often followed with a "where is THAT?"

Surely there is a place closer than 10 miles to buy magazines, LOL! For instance, Manhattan is a mile away.

This is a paradox of our region: Yes, Manhattan is a mile away (as the crow flies) but it will take you anywhere from 30 minutes to get to midtown (if you live DTJC, within a few minutes walking of Grove) to close to an hour (if you live farther out and need to do the HBLR to connect to PATH). For example, I find it a lot easier (and much more pleasant) to jump on my car and drive out to Millburn to visit WF, than to schlepp onto the PATH to visit the stores in midtown or even the one in Tribeca. Getting to Millburn takes me 15 minutes (20 in a bad day) while getting to Tribeca is at least 20 minutes, and the one in midtown is at least 35 or 40 minutes.

I'm not schlepping on the Light Rail, PATH, then a subway to go buy a magazine when I can be in Springfield in twenty minutes, thankee.

there's a B&N in the same building as WF and Bloodbath and Beyond in Tribeca. If you get inspired to upgrade cutlery or tableware after browzing food mags - check out Korin nearby on Warren.

The lotto bodega next to Morlees and the newstand on grove next to McDonalds have mags but I've never looked to see what they have; my guess would be hightimes, SI, nudie mags and car mags.

A&P also has a section.

Shop Rite has a decent collection of magazines including New Yorker, not sure about those other two you mentioned.
