I'm so disappointed I have to miss this this year! Last year was really fun and I got some great soups. I've been posting about this on JC Food Coop's social media accounts so hopefully you get a few extra attendees. Have fun!

Yeah I only made 4 quarts. Don't have time to make any more, unfortunately.

I made Turkish red lentil soup as well, didn't think anyone else would be making it. In my travels through Turkey it has always been my go to meal for something cheap and filling.

I made chicken soup too! I feel like you can never have too much chicken soup in your freezer. And dump it all in. No rules ever. I almost added sausage to mine!

I decided to make Chicken Soup and I am sure many of you have strong opinions on how Chicken Soup should be done. Would anyone care to opine? I am in the "Kitchen Sink" school where I throw in everything I can think of but another school of thought is that its all about the broth and everything else is a distraction.

I'm writing in to bump this story back onto the front page but ALSO to point out that if you want to participate you will need six quarts of frozen soup. Its Monday the 19th as I write this so there is just under a week left. You may want to think about a trip to the grocery store real soon and some planning of soup strategy.

I haven't been to the soup swap in probably 4 years but I think I'll do my best to attend this year with something interesting. I may dip out early as we're doing a homebrewing class that evening.

Wikipedia has this on Soup: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soup
Here are some quotes: "Evidence of the existence of soup can be found as far back as about 20,000 BC"
.

"The word soup comes from French soupe ("soup", "broth"), which comes through Vulgar Latin suppa ("bread soaked in broth") from a Germanic source, from which also comes the word "sop", a piece of bread used to soak up soup"
.
Wikipedia has a whole nother page with a long list of different soups:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_soups
Which spins off into individual soups, most with their own page too, like Clam Chowder: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clam_chowder#New_England_clam_chowder
and Borscht: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Borscht
O.K. now I'm hungry.

Snowy days like this make me think of how nice it would be to have some delicious homemade soup for lunch. See you all at the Soup Swap!

As the weather outside gets more frightful, you know what would be quite delightful? A freezer filled with soup!

Please come to the Jersey City Soup Swap!
Sunday, January 25th.
2-3p.m. at Grace Van Vorst. 39 Erie Street...They have an awesome used book sale going on- so bring soup and some $ to pick up a few good reads!

Make 4-6 quarts of soup and freeze it. Any kind of soup is welcome. We will gather together, introduce ourselves, and then pull numbers out of a hat (or soup bowl) to decide draft order. We will choose soups to take home until all the soup is gone.

This event has been quite successful in the past years and I hope to see many of you there! Prizes will be awarded as well!

If you have any questions, feel free to email jcsoupswap@gmail.com
