I don't think the maps for Irene were ever published, and the Sandy one was mostly based on elevation, not actual damage.

The Sandy one can be found here. http://www.corpsclimate.us/Sandy/curvesNJNY2_detailed.asp I'd say it overstates flooding in some sections - for example most of Brunswick was largely untouched - and understates it in other areas - I helped clean out homes in CV that got decimated by the Sandy storm surge - none of which are marked.

Flood risk maps can be found under:

http://geoplatform.maps.arcgis.com/ho ... 066544582ae0f0d988ccb3d27

FYI - I'd say a better map is this one, with Irene measuring just under 5ft, and Sandy slightly less for areas away from the storm surge. http://ss2.climatecentral.org/#16/40. ... tellite&level=5&pois=show

Comparatively, the Sandy map wrongly showed the equivalent of 6ft rise in some sections of downtown. And you can see that Country Village is underwater at 4-5 feet on the Sea Level Rise map (the Sandy surge broke over the 440 levee).

FEMA has published some data on this - but not the degree of detail that can identify damage below zip code level totals.

https://www.fema.gov/media-library/assets/documents/30714

Perhaps Terrence or someone at the Jersey Journal can put in a OPRA request for the FEMA data details and get it mapped for us? I'm sure everyone looking to buy or rent would be much more interested in actual damage in any given area, than something drawn up by FEMA for insurance purposes.

Actually, this is really helpful. Interesting to see that FEMA has reduced the flood areas of JC a bit.

I wouldn't expect anything from JC on disaster planning at this point. But as a good citizen, I'll let Fulop know that I think this is an area where the city is sorely lacking.

I take it reading comprehension is not your strong suit. The OP didn't ask about flood maps. The links presented have nothing to do with the FEMA maps, in fact. The links are a proactive effort by NYC to inform its citizens and agencies about updated EVACUATION zones, and designated shelters. With such a map, a resident can determine his evacuation zone designation, and where to head for shelter in the event of a disaster and/or an evacuation order.

New York City just updated its flood zone evacuation maps based on hurricane Sandy information. Does anyone know if JC plans to do the same?
