A Jersey City man nearly killed another man by beating him over the head with a tree branch over a $10 drug debt, Jersey City police said. Nicholas Rivera, 32, of Oakland Avenue, is charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury, terroristic threats, unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes, according to a criminal complaint. The 6-foot-3 Rivera was silent when he made his first appearance on the charges in Central Judicial Processing court in Jersey City via video link from the Hudson County jail Wednesday. His bail was later set at $150,000 cash or bond bail. More
