I have a question about the "one time refills" from the smartlink website - I know I have certain time for the "refill" to be added (I think it's two months?).

What happens if the refill is not added after that period (eg I didn't use my card during that period)? Is that automatically refunded back to my credit card, or do I have to follow up to have that refunded?

TIA.

Awesome, thanks! I guess not all machines at all exits/entrances dispense new cards.

Does anyone know where I can buy a replacement Smartlink card? My current unlimited card is on the fritz (bending in my wallet) and if I purchase online, my current card will automatically be cancelled until the new one arrives in 7-10 days. Do any of the stations sell blank/empty cards so I can transfer my account? Of the station machines I've checked so far, I can only check the balance or refill.

Thanks

I think Hoboken, 33rd, Newark and JSQ have SmartCard machines that sell them.

Same thing happened to me - I could only add 2 "packages" online, and then it wouldn't let me add anymore.

Then I went to the PATH train station, and manually added additional packages via the machines (one at a time) - that worked! Now I'm "fully loaded"

I know this is probably a silly question, but are you able to type in the number of trips to add? Or is your card already full?

Have you tried using a different web browser? (It seems to work fine for me in both Chrome and Firefox, but if you have an old version of something, maybe that's causing a glitch.)

There's also a link under Account Management to Cancel Card Registration (in the righthand column), if you want to try un-registering and then re-registering.

If that doesn't work, I'd email the help center. You should definitely be able to add trips online - that's really the best part! The help email is: smartlinkservice@panynj.gov or you can call 800 234 PATH.

I bought trips online a bit earlier. This was the link I used, though I don't know if it'll work for anyone else... https://www.pathsmartlinkcard.com/front/add_ride/index.jsp

Yes. On your account homepage below the info about your SmartLink card, there is a section called "Account Management." The first item in the middle column is "Add Trips/Passes."

The system won't let you purchase more than two items between 9/7 - 9/18, effectively eliminating the possibility of maxing out the card, unless you are already starting with 60 trips on it. Bunch of scumbags if you ask me.

Interesting.

So, assuming a smartcard has a 0 balance and you bought 140 trips, the cost would be $210. The way I figure, that's a savings of $28 (the increase is 20 cents a trip for purchases of 10 or more trips). Not insignificant at all. Now, can someone loan me $210?

You can only get this information here:

1. The maximum number of trips that the SmartLink Card holds is 140.

2. The card can only hold two each at any one time:
a. two 40-trip purchase
b. two 20-trip purchase
c. two 10-trip purchase

3. (2 X 40) + (2 X 20) + (2 x 10) = 140

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

On Wednesday, I made a 40-trip purchase. I had 12 trips left over from a previous 40-trip purchase. This brought me to 52 trips on my card.

Today, I went to the machine, and it only showed me the buttons for 20-trip or less. It did not show the button for 40-trip. So, I made a 20-trip purchase.

According to customer service, I can still buy another 20-trip, and two 10-trip.

Capice?
