Jersey City's 115-year-old Main Library getting major facelift

The 115-year-old Main Library in Jersey City is getting a top-to-bottom overhaul that library officials say will guarantee the historic building's service to the public for the next 100 years.

The renovation will be split into two main phases of construction, which will be completed over the next five years, said library architect Helena Ruman. In addition, there will also be several smaller projects, including the replacement of the building's aluminum windows.

"The construction will be phased, so only small areas on each floor will be separated and that's where the construction will be done," Ruman said, adding that most of the services in the building will remain available to the public during the renovations.
