Maybe Christie should close New Jersey's borders.

It's not "even worse". It is "worse for the NY metro area". For America as a whole it is just the same.

I think the problem is with the word "restriction". It is too ambiguous. When we asked for the travel restrictions we meant quarantine. However, we didn't spell it out, did we?

Imagine a rule that says you can only arrive in the US wearing pink socks - that would be a restriction too. Or you can only enter in Newark Liberty. Or you must hop through customs on one leg. Those are all "restrictions". So, in Obama's head he did what we asked for.

P.S. Anyways, quarantine is not the only way to prevent a disaster. We can also count on good old-fashioned luck. And it is entirely possible that we are going to get by and all will be fine. However if we plan to rely on luck in cases like this one I think we should cut the government budget for the agencies that were supposed to protect us. Luck is free.

Reality check, Bozos. There are a mere 8 confirmed cases in the US.

Yes. "Mere" 8 cases.

That's just few days after we were told that it is improbable that it would even get here.

And after we saw how just one single case totally overwhelmed the CDC that couldn't even figure out what protocols to follow and advised the second nurse that it's ok for her to fly commercial with a fever.

Anyways, let me quote this article again: AFRICA STEMS EBOLA VIA BORDER CLOSINGS, LUCK

It all boils down to one simple idea, luck and quarantine are the only tools that we have for this.

Right now we are using only one.

Appointing a 'czar' is a political joke to begin with so why not make the most of it. I guess Obama has a sense of humor.

Calling a handful of ebola cases a 'crisis' is an insult to the hundreds of people who died of the common flu. It's yet another thing politicians to get hysterical about for the upcoming elections. The only reason people should pay attention to ebola is because of the high fatality rate and that is because it has been ignored for years! I guess it was okay when it was just killing people in Africa? It's nice to have the attention now, creating vaccines is wonderful now that is has suddenly become a 1st world problem but let's get real here. You are more likely to get hit by a truck than you are to contract ebola, and in NJ that's an understatement.

Another stellar Obama move-let's put a well known Democrat lobbyist/shill/mouthpiece with zero experience in public health issues in charge of the response to a virus that kills 75% of those who get infected. Oh, he's great as a doctor, though-a spin doctor weeks ahead of the mid term elections-so it's a great pick!

Did you read the full article? The Liberians attacked the hospital because quarantine hadn't been declared in that area of Liberia - no different to the primitive morons and literal savages espousing quarantine in the US.

And Jcman8 - you simply prove time and time again - you are simply a racist scumbag.

Yes I did read the article and I don't understand what you are saying. Because quarantine hadn't yet been declared, this gives a reason to raid an ebola clinic and "free" all of the patients?

Also the hundreds of looters stole items such as mattresses that were covered in blood and shit. Likely contracting ebola themselves as a result. You can't seriously compare this type of savagery to Americans rightfully wanting to block off travel from infected countries. At a minimum, the Americans aren't killing themselves from their own stupidity.

And I wish the people in Africa weren't this primitive. It would have stopped the spread of ebola long ago. But the fact is, you need to understand how they behave before you start proposing ideas on how to handle them, like they are somehow on our level. When you are dealing with people who don't think ebola exists, your approach will not get you very far.

What do you think would happen if JC opened an Ebola treatment clinic. Or NJ opened an Ebola clinic in Short Hills and took in outsiders? Primitive savages? People like you and Monroe would be the first in there, weapons drawn if necessary, shutting it down.

Quarantine simply buys time. Unfortunately the cat's out of the bag. Publicly curing US aid workers has marked the US as the place to go for a cure. I wouldn't underestimate the ingenuity of people wanting to get here.

Manufacturing, and distributing treatments closer to the infection sites - convincing people they can get the best treatment in their own countries - needs to be a priority. Otherwise no quarantine in the US will stem the flood.

The problem is these people are primitive morons, literal savages. Many of them do not believe that ebola is a real concept. Did you know that they made the spread of ebola much worse in Africa by attacking a hospital holding ebola patients and freeing them all?

Quote:
The attack comes just one day after a report of a crowd of several hundred local residents, chanting, 'No Ebola in West Point,' drove away a burial team and their police escort that had come to collect the bodies of suspected Ebola victims in the slum in the capital, Reuters reports.

West Point residents went on a "looting spree," stealing items from the clinic that were likely infected, said a senior police official, who insisted on anonymity because he was not authorized to brief the press. The residents took medical equipment and mattresses and sheets that had bloodstains, he said. Ebola is spread through bodily fluids including blood, vomit, feces and sweat.

http://www.cbsnews.com/news/report-ar ... -clinic-freeing-patients/

They also have been attacking doctors who have been trying to help them.

Quote:
Villagers flee at the sight of a Red Cross truck. When a Westerner passes, villagers cry out, ?Ebola, Ebola!? and run away.

This month, Doctors Without Borders classified 12 villages in Guinea as ?red,? meaning they might harbor Ebola but were inaccessible for safety reasons.

http://www.nytimes.com/2014/07/28/wor ... inea.html?ref=africa&_r=1

So when you are dealing with "people" like this, I think your approach is far too idealistic.

Nonsense, it was a blatantly political move that is being criticized by plenty of Democrats. His title should be 'spinmeister' rather than 'czar', because that's exactly what his job is.

Even the CDC says they don't need another doctor, the problems aren't medical. They need someone to unravel the knots that snarl the bureaucracies and hinder communications. An administrator rather than a MD. This criticism of the appointee is just partisan BS not actually looking to solve any problem but to make election points.

And when race baiters like Jesse Jackson called it racist when the black man with ebola died but not the white doctor, you better believe his crew will be raising up a storm of outrage over a "racist" travel ban. And Obama & Co need all the votes they can get.

Not buying it, I misplaced my "everything is about politics " glasses. It doesn't begin to explain why Europe is slow also. They have far more traffic and therefore risk.

Their argument against closing the borders is this:

A. It would not work.
B. It would make it more difficult to stop outbreak in West Africa.
C. It would devastate economy of West Africa

Not only those three explanations are wrong, they are offensively wrong - as in they sort of assume that an audience must be really uninformed to buy into them.

A. They claim that something "would not work" when it actually does work right in front of our eyes. Case in point, West Africa itself: Associated Press, AFRICA STEMS EBOLA VIA BORDER CLOSINGS, LUCK.

B. This is one very poor attempt at cheating - the travel restriction is proposed to limit travel FROM the West Africa, and VOX is trying to play the audience for fools pretending that it would limit the flow of help TO the West Africa.

C. I am not sure how banning the travel from West Africa would contribute to the ruination of their economy and notably VOX doesn't go into the details so I think they couldn't invent an explanation either. I think they added this point just because when you create a list "here are X reasons why..." you'd want X to be 3, or 5, or 7, or 10 for aesthetic purposes. "Two reasons" wouldn't do.

Of course I can imagine that if we were to ban the importation of goods (edible goods I presume since there is no point banishing oil or minerals or any manufactured goods that can be quarantined) that would cause problems. But travel?

Banning the flights means we use every possible opportunity.

Drawing it in the hospital emergency room means we let the virus take all possible advantages of spreading in a densely populated centers with millions-per-day public transportation systems, shopping centers and so on.

It is not doing nothing, but it is definitely doing the least we can.

So, what's your point?
What's so hard to understand here?

P.S. BTW what's the party line on the difference between banning the flights to Israel (that was good and important) and banning flights from Ebola-stricken countries (that would be bad)?

Listen, the only thing I asked is if not banning flights means we're doing nothing. I think hyperbole distorts the conversation.

All that other stuff you read into from my post is on you, not me.

Well, looks like there's a pretty clear answer as to whether airports will be shutting down flights anytime soon.

Bwah...Angel Staffing...the hits just keep on coming.

---------------------------------------------------------------

Wanted: Ebola screeners at JFK for $19 an hour
By Jennifer Bain, Philip Messing and Danika Fears
October 18, 2014 | 12:20am

They?re looking for the few, the proud ? and the really desperate.

For a measly $19 an hour, a government contractor is offering applicants the opportunity to get up close and personal with potential Ebola patients at JFK Airport ? including taking their temperatures.

Angel Staffing Inc. is hiring brave souls with basic EMT or paramedic training to assist Customs and Border Protection officers and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in identifying possible victims at Terminal 4, where amped-up Ebola screening started on Saturday.

EMTs will earn just $19 an hour, while paramedics will pocket $29. Everyone must be registered with the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians.

Not banning flights = doing nothing?

Look, it is very simple - with no cure, our only weapon is the oldest thing invented by humanity: quarantine. The only question is where do we want to draw the line.

Even the NYDaily News, the liberal tabloid in NYC, called out Obama on this-basically saying that the new czar's job 1 is to damage control for the Democrats ahead of the mid-terms.

You think we'll be hearing Obama say: Ronnie, you're doing a heck of a job.

Yup. Sadly, unlike Christie, Obama hasn't decided to govern in a way to reach a reasonable consensus. In any case, the 'czar' appointment was meant to cover the Dem's asses in the mid terms more than solve the Ebola problem.

Isn't this the surgeon general's job? The position that has been vacant since last year?

Today Jamaica imposed a ban on travelers from Ebola stricken countries.

Still nothing from the US...
