Fulop needs to do some serious internal audits on appointed staff if he wants to survive - If a bunch of hacks on JClist can find SERIOUS weak links in his armor (administration), especially when he preaches accountability, transparency or ethics then his future is limited - Fulop needs to fire the Chief of Staff and employ some-one else or an agency capable to better investigate prospective appointees and current appointees. Vetting the background of every senior staff member is paramount for his future and the future of Jersey City.

Akil runs MoreThanARace.org whose Executive Director solicits funds to send underprivileged youth to camp. The address given on the solicitation letters is 230 7th St. which is a house owned by Veronica Park. Veronica Park runs Jersey City Youth Foundation, www.jcyouth.org. They claim to distribute blankets and turkeys to underprivileged youths in Jersey City. Veronica Park raises money for Mayor Fulop's political war chest. It seems strange that the Mayor's Chief of Staff runs an organization that lost its non-profit status yet solicits funds that are sent to the house of the Mayor's chief fundraiser. Even more strange is that the thank you letters sent to the donors who made those contributions shows an address of 317 Pacific Ave in Bergen Lafayette which is owned by the Jersey City Redevelopment Agency. A lot about this doesn't seem right.

If he were White, he'd already have been kicked to the curb. But maybe, given this country's long history of oppression towards African Americans, his comments in '95 were justified.
Apparently there is no transcript, or at least I haven't seen one. I'd be curious to know the context within which he made the Abrham Lincoln remark. This one is most interesting to me, the idea that Lincoln was a wolf in sheep's clothing is one I've never heard. Wonder why he felt this way and what supporting ideas he used to back up his argument, that Lincoln was a wolf in sheep's clothing.

that is correct, Steven fooled us all, he railed against Healy for 8 years and came so ill prepared to lead, its stunning. The only appointment who has any credentials is the HHS director, everyone else is a hack and political payback. Amazing.

The real question is, who are these people who seem to keep popping up again and again, bouncing from one political appointment or administration to another? It's mind boggling how many people seem to exist in a nether world wherein they never fail to land some cushy, high salaried city, county or state job. People bounce from education, sanitation and recreation and for some reason always land on their feet. Political patronage is still alive and well in Jersey City. Ridiculous.

This guy could very well be Fulop's Achilles' heel and haunt him for years to come and even drag him back from future aspirations - When you appoint some-one it highlights and reflects your skills in management, as is when you fire some-one.
I believe this guy will attempt to push his own agenda for which he failed with other administrations.

The mayor's wife chief of staff has a six figure salary, so yes, the chief of staff has to undergo the same scrutiny as any other high level staffer.
She lied about her live in murderer boyfriend, got caught (as well as getting caught about her reason for not living in NY) but she skated on both counts.

By appointing this guy I have no reason why this isn't a major stuff up by Fulop - Who in the hell on Fulop's administration is vetting prospective candidates to his administration?
Muhammed Akil sounds like a total nut job and sounds like the perfect candidate to play Idi Amin's remake movie; using race and religion in such a way as part of a speech highlights his mind-set and contempt of civil and human rights. I wonder what he really thinks of Fulop behind closed doors?
