It's because it's not entirely a furniture store - it's also the offices of landlord that owns several buildings downtown. I used to live in one of them. In fact, it was the buildings that burned down next to Orale. Wonder if the fire did them in...

Always liked their hand-painted sign, actually. But the one time we went in to look at furniture they just totally ignored us, even when we said hi.

Good, it looked like a dump. The more of these crappy places close up shop the better. Chains or not, anything will be an improvement.

Apparently the Cruz (?) Furniture store (across the street) is up for rent as well. I hope we don't get more franchise-y type places in there!

Wow, a Subway, a 7-11, and a real estate office, what an exciting block :)

i think the real estate office is expanding. I am guessing that a 7-11 will replace A1

The building where MXLPLXXPX and A-1 Deli were recently forced out of. I noticed today that the real estate office on the southernmost end of the building (ReMax I think?) was mostly evacuated with floors torn up, etc. Is something afoot with the building, I wonder?
Or are they just raising the rents immensely? The only two businesses which remain are GNC and Subway, both national chains which are notorious for staying afloat amid rising rents. I'd love to see that building refaced actually, with nice storefronts and a nice brick veneer instead of that very depressing beige cast concrete along the entire building. Would really liven up that entire block.
