Am I the only cold-hearted, uncaring SOB who doesn't give a damn about these shootings and stabbings?

Well, I'm too soft-hearted for my own good sometimes, and even I'm starting to tune out the reports of shootings, stabbings, etc. from Greenville and BL.

Each one is a tragedy for the victim's friends and family, but the relentlessness and monotony of these stories IMO is really bringing on sympathy fatigue.

I still read the newspaper and as soon as I see MLK linked with shooting I turn the page.

Sorry to disappoint you all who need to bring race/or neighborhood into the discussion. But it's not the location that causes my indifference, I just don't care unless its family or friends anymore.

Anymore? This is called the monkeysphere and is just part of human nature.

Yes, but how often does that happen compared to how often it happens in BL and Greenville?

It's that part of JC where you expect those things to happen. Greenvile/Bergen/Lafayette, there's no reason to ever set foot in that area.

No but if you don't visit the area on foot than apparently you are racist and scared of your own shadow.

A 21-year-old man who was shot in the back this afternoon in Jersey City is currently in critical condition at Jersey City Medical Center-Barnabas Health, a hospital spokesman confirmed.

The shooting occurred at approximately 2:15 p.m. on Martin Luther King Drive and Wade Street, Jersey City spokeswoman Jennifer Morrill said, adding that police are continuing to investigate.

The victim is currently undergoing surgery at the hospital, said Jersey City Medical Center spokesman Mark Rabson.

A worker at King Fried Chicken and Pizza on the corner of Wade Street and Martin Luther King Drive said he heard five gunshots and then saw a "very tall man," approximately 6-foot-5, running down the street wearing a ski mask with a gun in hand.

A neighborhood woman, who declined to give her name, said she saw a man lying on the street on Martin Luther King Drive with blood on his neck.

Another woman from the neighborhood, who also did not provide her name, added that she saw a tall man in a ski mask run past her on Martin Luther King Drive.

According to police radio transmissions, the suspect fled southbound on Martin Luther King Drive.

Additional information on the shooting was not immediately available.

Journal staff writer Patrick McGovern contributed to this report.
