The caucus meeting came on and I must make a correction, the new street will be called 7th St not 7 Avenue. Now, we do have a 7th Street. I hope the administration do something about this.

I have seen a map with the Liberty Harbor street names, and I remember them being very random, like 7th Ave, Park Street, etc. Is there any rhyme or reason to the naming convention over there? Like, will there be a 6th Ave, 5th Ave, etc? I'm not sure why they didn't just continue the names of the streets coming from the north. Changing the grid and the names of the streets makes it seem like a pocket development, versus integrated into it's surroundings. Also, Liberty View Drive sounds like the entrance roadway to a suburban corporate campus or something. Very bad.

Liberty Harbor North also plan to add another new street, it will be called 7th Avenue. We do have 7th Street, this was announce at the caucus meeting Aug. 18, 2014. It will be near Park Avenue.

Hey, rescue, yes I did and you would think someone in the city would have read my post. I posted an Jersey Journal article with this date: July 30, 2014. So it is not me, it is the city.

This was mention several months ago, but now there is an announcement of 18 Park, when there is already a Park St in Jersey City. Do we wait for another tragedy?

Brewster, It's true NYC has a mishegoss of street names but I'm concerned about the fleas on our dog not someone elses'. Remember it was Mayor Fulop who said in March he would review the process and/or renaming of streets.

What about renumbering instead of renaming? Would that be less difficult a change?
This is one of those things that seems silly and causes mostly minor annoyances -- e.g. my old roommate's movers went to the wrong place -- but in the case of a fire or other emergency it could be a matter of life and death. At the very least, 9-11 operators should have a list of potentially confusing streets they should confirm when taking a call.

Somehow NYC seems to have a system to deal with these issues, or the world would have come to end years ago. There's places in Queens like Maspeth where there's 4 parallel numbered roads all in a row, named xxx Street, xxx Road, xxx Drive, xxx Court.
Never mind Lower Manhattan's Broadway, East Broadway and West Broadway, none touching the others.

In March Mayor Fulop said he was considering renaming Grant Avenue after a fire caused confusion that it was on Grand Street. Now I see that there is a new street, Park Avenue, in the Liberty Harbor zone. This could easily be confused with Park St. in Bergen Hill. Both of these streets have low numbered addresses. Are developers in sync with the citys' concerns when they name their streets without consultation and why is the Planning and Zoning Boards permitting this?

Somewhere in an ancient housing code it does mention numbers on the backs of houses. Mine are on the back porch. It helps the police if they have to run through backyards.
I agree that half the street names in the city would have to be changed. Linden Ave, Linden Ave East, Linden Court etc..... I never liked that streets named after historical people were changed. ie: Hudson Blvd to Kennedy Blvd Henderson Street to Marin

Yes they should. Years ago I reported an illegal driveway along with out of state plates to the zoning departmet. They went to Sherman Ave. instead of Sherman Place.
Also why not put house numbers on the back of the house and the side of corner houses so they can be seen from all possible angles.

There was no reason for the city to give the Beacon, Beacon Way when there is a Beacon Avenue or street in the Heights. So, yes, there should be name changes.

There are just too many possible instances of confusion for this to make sense. Dozens of street names could be misheard as different street names--and each new name would have to be checked against every existing street name to make sure it isn't confusing. This is more of a matter of improving the technology and training for dispatchers.

Why not link the dispatchers with a 911 version of SeeClickFix? Who doesn't have GPS on their phone these days?

It is more of the dispatcher's fault for not getting the right address.Changing the streets names? You would have to change half of JC.

I think this is probably less confusing than all of the streets like Magnolia, Pavonia, Forrest, etc that have giant gaps in them because of cliffs or journals square, etc.
Also, let's petition Hoboken to change the name of Newark St, I'm tired of cabs and delivery guys go to the complete wrong place.

The Jersey Journal
Last week, four members of a Jersey City family were killed in a fire on Grant Avenue. Firefighters originally went to a similar address on Grand Street because the original caller did not specify "street'' or avenue,'' according to the 911 tapes. As a result, Jersey City Mayor Steve Fulop is seeking to change the name of Grant Avenue to avoid confusion among first-responders. Fulop conceded it could be an inconvenience to residents on the block, but for safety sake, it's worth it, he said. There are other roadways in Jersey City that could face similar confusion: "Stegman," where there is a court, place, street and terrace and "Wegman," which has a court and parkway. There is also a Van Reypen Street and a Van Reipen Avenue. You can vote here
