Wilson Conde|The Jersey Journal Project Greenville, a local community organization that aims to create a positive image for Jersey City's Greenville neighborhood, will host two art events showcasing Jersey City?s open spaces. Elizabeth Deegan, a Greenville resident and Project Greenville's main event organizer, said the organization is trying to showcase the entire city's open spaces, including public parks, community gardens, playgrounds, farmers markets, and historic cemeteries. Deegan said local residents are encouraged to submit entries -- photos, paintings, drawings and other depictions of these places -- that they feel help raise awareness of the city's open spaces. The deadline for submissions is the last weekend of August. The first display event will run from 4 to 7 p.m. on Sept. 5 and 6 as part of the JC Fridays program, while the second display event will follow from noon to 6 p.m. on Oct. 18 and 19, as part of the Jersey City Artists Studio Tour. Both events will be held at 128 Winfield Ave., between Ocean Avenue and Old Bergen Road, Deegan said. Deegan added that she has worked closely with the South Greenville Neighborhood Association and the Columbia Park Greenville Memorial organization, and has been inspired by both organizations' hard work in beautifying and improving the neighborhood.
