I was pondering the same question when I left Porta Saturday night. The sign has no "character" whatsoever, it is now odd at best.

I am all for historic preservation but what the heck is going on with that pharmacy sign on newark? why is it still there when there are no adjacent pharmacies?

Hey so it looks like they've built the second floor around the sign, and this morning the workmen told me "the guy said they're gonna keep it."

don't know The Guy, but I like him already.

anyone know if the sign is staying? it's a pretty great remnant of old Newark Ave. I'd hate to see it go the way of the Kentile Floors sign in Gowanus.

I was sitting outside LITM the other day and thinkign about this. Do the porta pizza guys own it? They seem like some hip cats that might want to keep it around.

The demolition guys wanted $500 for the old Borinquen Hardware Indian Head. I liked it, but don't have that kinda cash lying around for old indian heads.

There were so many beautiful storefronts back in the day and note the cobblestones.

Speaking of old Newark Avenue here?s a sad loss on the other end of it.

I am still mourning the loss of the Joey Starrs sign right below Tonnele and Newark. I didn?t drive up Newark for a few weeks and poof it was gone. Not only the sign but the entire building to make way for condo?s. If I saw it coming down I would have given the demolition crew a few bucks and put it in my yard. Maybe even just one side of it.

A picture of it is in this interesting blog?
