You can ask the Zoning dept for information as well. I believe the cut off time is 6pm and not on Sunday.

You seem like you were troubled by this for a while. Did you reach out to let your landlord or management company know your concerns? You would have had to have some kind of paper trail if you were to proceed with any kind of action (like getting out of your lease).

Your landlord may not have known the contractor was showing up early - and a simple conversation may have cleared that up.

On the bright side, you do have a landlord that is spending money on the upkeep of your home.

Thanks for the links. I'm a bit unfamiliar with the site, so for me it's somewhat difficult to navigate. From what I can find, they're in violation of hours of operation (233-5), enclosure or work area (233-7) and probably disposal of washings (233-8). I wasn't able to find anything about needing to notify tenants of work. I really should have been more on top of this since the majority of the work is now complete and I hadn't taken photos of the progress or job site, other than looking out my backyard and seeing the war zone they've left behind at the end of the day. It wasn't until a few days ago that I had a chance to talk with most of the tenants in the building to hear their frustrations.

Are landlords required by NJ law to notify tenants when building work/maintenance is being conducted? Our building's exterior is currently being resurfaced with scraping, filling of cracks, painting etc. and it has been going on forever, well over a month for a 4 story building with 8 units with 3 exterior walls. The tenants were never notified of the work, when it would start, when it would end... nothing. Several of my fellow tenants are very upset because the workers arrive around 7am and don't leave till sometime after 7pm or later. It's becoming a privacy issue for some tenants with the weather getting warmer and needing the windows open, especially while trying to get ready in the morning before work.

Just curious. I know the work needs to be done and I'm positive our rent will increase because of it so I wasn't sure if tenants are required to be notified of such work that doesn't directly affect our living quarters.
