Well, part of it is having your food choices "curated" - like a tasting menu, so you are introduced to things you might not otherwise pick from the menu. I also think the idea of a small group tour adds to the appeal - presumably, these are fellow "foodies", and people you strike up a conversation with might have interesting places of their own to suggest. I would add "Legal Beans" on Newark Avenue, to share a pig's head! And for those of us who don't live downtown or (heresy alert!) don't have a car, this makes the logistics easier.

Rescuelife, will you, ahem, I mean the two ladies, be trying and supporting any oldschool places, like maybe an empanada from El Sason De Las Americas, a beef patty from Nicoles or pizza/cheescake cookie from 2nd street or will it just be the new bougie places?

Love this and I'm very confident these two young women will be very successful while "Bill463" and the other pathetic losers sit on on their couches lamenting the days when downtown Jersey City was a wasteland of warehouses and abandoned lots. Anyone remotely living in the 21st century knows these tours do very well with people intrigued by an area who do not have a lot of time to explore every eatery, along with locals who want to treat their friends/family to a taste of multiple eateries at once. It's a shame we still have some old lonely souls who have nothing better to do than play couch critic and insult others' ideas while contributing nothing aside from adding to our C02 levels.

This has got to be a joke, right? Comparing Jersey City and San Diego and Saratoga Springs?!? Stopping into a bagel store constitutes a ' food tour'?!? I mean of the many many pretentious things here I find this one ' the best ' - LOL!!!!! I mean honestly, this cannot be for real.

We've also done a couple of food tours, one in San Deigo and one in Saratoga Springs, which we really enjoyed. It's a great way to learn about some of the best foods an area has to offer and taste a bunch of different types of food, so I just thought I'd share.
As for the one in JC, we often have friends come to visit, but usually they are not here for more than a couple of days and there are lots of things to try to fit in during a short period of time. I just thought this would be a great way to show off some of our favorite places without having to plan to do a meal in each one, which would basically take up most of the meals while they are here.

I don't personally find the idea appealing in any way, NYC or Jersey City, as I'd prefer to just have an actual meal somewhere, but I was asking about those four places specifically, which are all in fairly easy walking distance of each other and none involves an extended wait at most times.

It's an efficient way to sample a lot of places in a short amount of time. Generally, the tour operators have pre-arranged deals with the restaurants, where they get in and out fast and sample food that the spot is known for.
Yes, you could visit the places yourself, but generally you'll linger a lot longer (and have to worry about parking if the sports are a distance from each other). I have taken a NY pizza tour and it was a lot of fun.

I love the idea of tasting something from Wonder Bagel, Park & Sixth, Toricos and Taqueria all in the span of a few hours...yum! Not trying to be obnoxious (honestly), but what's stopping you from doing this yourself?

No, if I ran the business, I would say so...especially given the general nasty comments such as yours on this board. But I do work for a company in the tourism industry, which is how I heard about this new business. And it's rare in my business to hear about these types of activities taking place in my backyard since JC is not a place known for its tourism.
I just generally like to support new local JC businesses when I can and thought others in town might as well. If you've never taken a food tour, you should check one out...they can be a lot of fun.

Just heard about a new local business that is now offering the first official food tour of Jersey City...guess that puts us on the culinary map!
http://jerseygirlsfoodtours.com I've done food tours in other cities and they are a ton of fun, so I really hope these ladies do well. We have some friends and family coming to visit this summer and this seems like a great way to show them a number of our favorite spots all in one afternoon. I love the idea of tasting something from Wonder Bagel, Park & Sixth, Toricos and Taqueria all in the span of a few hours...yum!
