Still, I can?t help noting that a new Wall Street Journal/NBC poll has New Jersey Governor Chris Christie?s ratings going up among ?Core Republicans? following the terrible publicity he received from the bridge scandal. I really didn't expect this.

He becomes more popular among "Core Republicans" because he is being attacked by liberal media?

In other words, "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" logic?

Rally around the flag. No surprise. They've conveniently forgotten how much they hated him for hugging Obama. Now they love him because Democrats hate him. The same reason Sarah Palin retains some popularity in certain quarters well after the expiration of her 15 minutes of fame.

So the only person of any note publicly defending Governor Christie in the Bridgegate scandal is being paid by one of Christie?s closet advisors? Kind of sad really.

Did Christie fly over the George Washington Bridge on 9/11/13 to check BridgeGate?

NJ's Largest Newspaper calls their endorsement of Christie a mistake:

Chris Christie endorsement is regrettable

By Tom Moran/ Star-Ledger Editorial Board

February 09, 2014

During the fall campaign, the liberal TV hero Rachel Maddow ran a stinging segment ridiculing The Star-Ledger?s endorsement of Gov. Chris Christie. How could we endorse him, she asked, when we criticized him so harshly in the same piece? Had we lost our minds?

Not quite. An endorsement is not a love embrace. It is a choice between two flawed human beings. And the winner is often the less bad option.

But yes, we blew this one. When the endorsement ran, I could not get a cup of coffee in the People?s Republic of Montclair without my liberal friends taunting me. Back then, I pushed back.

Yes, we knew Christie was a bully. But we didn?t know his crew was crazy enough to put people?s lives at risk in Fort Lee as a means to pressure the mayor. We didn?t know he would use Hurricane Sandy aid as a political slush fund. And we certainly didn?t know that Hoboken Mayor Dawn Zimmer was sitting on a credible charge of extortion by Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno.

Even before this scandal train got rolling, this endorsement was a close call and a split vote among the editorial board. We regard Christie as the most overrated politician in the country, at least until now, a man who is better at talking than governing. We criticized him for trashing the working poor, for his tea party approach to the environment, for his opposition to gay marriage and a livable minimum wage. And so on.

A new poll shows Chris Christie actually gaining support with one group of voters:

Here?s some good news for New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie! His support in national polls is way, way up among an important constituency: People who love assholes. Obviously, not a lot of voters self-identify as ?people who love assholes,? but pollsters have a special technical term for this small but terribly influential demographic group. They call them ?core Republicans.??

A new Wall Street Journal/NBC poll shows that Gov. Christie is now viewed less favorably by all voters, and even by Republican voters, than he was just a few short months ago, dropping from 41 percent positive feelings among all voters last June to 22 percent positive feelings last month. But every cloud of scandal has a silver lining:?

While the poll showed a drop in the positive feelings toward New Jersey Gov. Christie overall and a drop in positive feelings even among Republicans, Mr. Christie?s numbers actually improved among more strongly partisan Core Republicans. Among Core Republicans, only 32% had positive feelings about Mr. Christie in October. In January, that number climbed to 42%.

At the end of the day watching anyone vehemently defend any politician (I.e. the guys that rule you but don't ever actually give a shit about you), is sad.

And yet you continue to defend Christie... Irony must be a tasty breakfast snack.

I think you were shooting for hypocrisy, but nice try. I defend my own beliefs, I don't put my neck out for any politician. I haven't really spent much energy defending Christie. My position for the most part has been: why are you all speculating about things for which you have no proof? As of yet, Christie hasn't been proved to be directly responsible for anything. I also said if/when he is, I'll be right there with you saying resign. It would be a MIRACLE if any of the lefty douchbags on here ever took a moderate stance on anything. I'm not holding my breath.

So, nice try Pebs, but...no.

Also, it's the folks like atsushi who are really sad. They defend these politicians (or likewise, attack the other side) much like people who speak about their favorite sports teams as "WE won the game" it's pretty funny.

Irony is the correct term there. Hypocrisy works as well.

I doubt that Christie could be tied to this, but to say that it shouldn?t be speculated belies all laws of logic. The man has built a reputation of running a tight ship as a micromanager. Now, we?re to believe he?s hands off?? Christie employs someone for the specific purpose of recording video of him to create YouTube clips of him berating residents of NJ. Now, we?re to believe that Christie is not spiteful and vindictive??

When this all started, you were the Monroe side of ?nothing to see here, just a traffic jam.? That was proven to be false. Now articles are coming out that say Christie absolutely did know.

We lost what has come to be, possibly in part because he wasn?t employed long, our best governor because he hired his boyfriend for a position he wasn?t qualified for. This is an action that every public official has taken since the dawn of time, not that I condone it. Now, Christie exists as a man that has abused his power as Governor. If you aren?t in favor of him getting tossed from office you are a purely partisan hack. FACT.

No, but the Star Ledger has assigned ten reporters to NJ Democrat Senators most recent ethics lapse, and they'll be saying he should resign if the allegations are true.

Because a year after he 'forgot' to re-imburse his tax evading Florida doctor friend he found out the Feds are still on him-so he for a second time 'remembered' the oversight of a another free private jet trip and ponied up.

Oopsie, the Star Ledger hasn't done that. Or even spent much time on how a sexual deviant who was an illegal alien went to work for Senator Menendez.

Gotta keep the eye on a traffic jam!

Menendez is useless and mostly neutered. Why spend pages on him?

Why does this surprise you? Republicans are cowards with daddy issues. That?s why they want the John Waynes of the world to come in and save the day for them. They swoon every time one of these dipsticks acts like a tough guy.

Bridget Kelly refuses to turn over documents subpoenaed by legislative committee

Bridget Anne Kelly, considered a crucial figure in unraveling the George Washington Bridge lane closures, is refusing to produce documents and information requested under subpoena by the state legislative committee investigating the controversy, The Star-Ledger has learned.

In a letter issued today by the lawyer for Kelly, who last month was fired as Gov. Chris Christie?s deputy chief of staff after emails emerged showing she had apparently orchestrated the lane closures, Kelly cited both her Fifth Amendment constitutional right against self-incrimination and Fourth Amendment right against wrongful search and seizure.
