Thanks. That sounds great. I just moved to JC a month ago and am trying to work out how to get involved in promoting/supporting cycling in the area. I will join Bike JC. I'm also looking for like-minded road cyclists interested in getting on the streets to knock out some miles this side of the Hudson (I was in Manhattan before). I'm also a firm believer in the need to build awareness of cycling and sharing the roads. I'm looking forward to the first beer hall meeting....

For those that want to immerse themselves in the Jersey City bicycle community start out by joining Bike JC www.bikejc.org they hold their meetings at the Zeppelin Hall beer garden across from the J.C. Medical Center. The meetings are usually held on a Tuesday depending on events or special ordinances to be heard at city council meetings. The organization has a Facebook page where you can be more interactive online with them. Various events the group has participated in were tabling street fairs in the Heights and Downtown, along with the Earth Day festival. They also host the annual Ward Tour a 14 mile bike tour of J.C. touching all of the election ward districts throughout Jersey City. A huge accomplishment has been the recent bike lanes starting with the lane in front of city hall on the 2-way portion of Grove St. Up in the Heights sharrow lanes have been installed on the west bound lane of Bowers St. travelling from Central Ave. to Kennedy Blvd. Sharrow lanes (shared road) have symbols representing bicycles. This should make bicycle commuting a bit safer. So get a helmet (and a lock) hop on your bike and ride !

I would get involved, but am not a great organizer. Who may be interested and what would be involved (network with BikeJC, reach out to City Hall, etc.)? Our own "Vision Zero" clock could be posted here on JCList.
