7, including captain, treated for injuries in Jersey City ferry accident

By Michaelangelo Conte/The Jersey Journal

A Goldman Sachs ferry that is operated by New York Waterway slammed into a Jersey City pier some 300 yards north of the dock it was headed for this afternoon, leaving at least seven people, including the captain, with minor injuries.

Two people aboard the ferry said the boat struck the end of Owen Grundy Pier at 4:20 p.m. The pier was later cordoned off with police tape and police at the scene said the pier would remain closed until it could be inspected to determine if it suffered structural damage when struck by the ?York.?

Jersey City and hospital officials said five passengers and two crew members reported injuries ? three treated at the scene and four treated at the Jersey City Medical Center. A source said the captain was one of the people treated at the JCMC.
