Now that the run is over, I'd be interested in discussing the effect of the age of the cast on the story. I did a little research and the Off Broadway run had a cast in their late 20's-early 30's, rather than 50's. We thought that a younger Annie & Elliot would have had less complex inferred lives: young people still finding out who they are, rather than somewhat neurotic mature people who've never quite figured out how to be comfortable in their skin, in contrast to Don.

The picture of an early 20's Annie giving a speech at a new job standing on a table is quite different than a mature woman doing it. The actor who played Elliot O-B was 28. His obsessive behavior at that age would be more cute than creepy.

I'm definitely not saying I think the older casting was bad, just that it's interesting to contemplate the difference. Romeo & Juliet cast in their 50's might make a great interpretation, but boy would it be different. It's always been something of a problem with casting those young Shakespeare characters as well as Hamlet. Hamlet is often played by men twice the character's age.

We saw the show Saturday, very enjoyable and professional. Well worth the money anywhere, never mind a short walk away. Was glad to support a local company.
